Title: TV Licence

Milgod - February 7, 2007 03:28 PM (GMT)
Does anyone think we should just do in with the TV licence? It would of course mean we would have to scrap the BBC, but is it worth it? £130 a year is a fair whack.

i always pay mine in Ireland and think i get quite good value for it in terms of sport, news, leisure viewing so would be against doing away with it. Plus state broadcasters do provide quite a few jobs.

Milgod - February 7, 2007 04:10 PM (GMT)
Sport on the BBC has gone downhill though. They have even got rid of Grandstand.

I think the time has come to a stage when the Viewer should have the choice to accept BBC network or not. Now days we hardly watch BBC as there is so few programmes worth watching.

If I was given a choice I would not have BBC network at all.

i think for what you get from it it is excellent value for money.

I don't really watch the tv much these days only really sports and a few other shows but i do listen to the radio a lot and if the license fee were to go i think the bbc radio stations would suffer a lot.

The only decent thing the BBC does now are natural history programmes and most of the other stuff is shite. I don't listen to Radio 1 anymore, must be my age, and sometimes listen to Jonathan Ross on Radio 2.
With more and more people getting turned off by reality tv there is a niche in the market for quality comedy and drama and I think they should invest in them.
Scrap the fee and put adverts on, most of them are better or funnier than the programmes anyway.

BBC is a dinosaur that needs putting to sleep. Politically correct, racist twaddle.

Fuck 'em.....oh and original pay per view if you wonder what the license fee is all about.

Cahoonts.

I think the BBC is fantastic value for money and should be kept on, just as long as I don't have to pay it.....The Irish licence on the other hand, is a load of b*ll*x.

With Freeview I feel I get really good value for money. I get a good choice for my money as well with other programs and sports being on if you hit the red button. I know the BBC has faults but they make better programs than ITV who wait for the BBC to make something, then copy it in a tacky way.

Get rid of the licence fee and get in adverts. Who pays for them adverts, we do, the consumer. And as for the adverts sometimes being better than the programs, well it shows how bad the programs are.

We don't have tv licencing in Canada, we have our national tv station, the CBC, but it has commercials which don't bother me, it's always time for a drink or a pee. lol

The beeb can make some good stuff - Rome, Planet Earth etc but £130 a year is steep. I wouldn't mind allowing a few ads to reduce the price.

JR - February 8, 2007 09:18 AM (GMT)
I think, comparatively, that the BBC is very good and makes some excellent stuff, planet earth etc and the occasional one off drama. In addition I listen to Radio 1 throughout the day when i'm working, and I think people forget you get the radio included in the fee. Having said that, I don't mind paying it as for me it is £130 divided by 7 due to being in a student house. Whether i'd bother paying it if I lived alone, i'm not sure. I'm not sure either whether i'd prefer the fee, or the adverts, which are the alternatives.

Lee D'su - February 8, 2007 09:33 AM (GMT)
I don't like the idea of adverts, but I cannot see why program sponsorship couldn't be accepted.

aksattee - February 8, 2007 10:55 AM (GMT)
Yes I know the Radio is included in the package. But what about the people who do not have a TV and thus no TV license but have a Radio do they pay 130 pound I am damn sure they do not.

northernwhites - February 8, 2007 05:12 PM (GMT)
I hate the TV licence. I dont watch anything on the BBC worth paying for and fully intend on doing my best to not pay for a TV licence when I get my own gaff. I simply do not think the BBC is worth it, and would prefer not to receive it.

£130 isn't very much in today's society when compared to the likes of Sky and other pay per view channels..

My sentiments entirely. Most of the stuff on sky is crap or recylcled. You have to pay extra for anything worth watching.

I think £130 a year is peanuts. You get 6 national radio stations , the BBC website, 4 channels for adults and 2 for kids, which on their own are worth their weight in gold.
What I would like to see, however, is a cut on expenses and unnecessary jobs at the beeb. They're almost as bad as local councils for wasting money.

Milgod - February 12, 2007 05:15 PM (GMT)
£11 a month is something I might not spend if I had the option, like with the other cable channels.
