Equal pay for women now I see. It seems that this is equality gone too far IMO. If women were to play 5 set tennis then they should have equal pay, but not if they continue on three sets.

I think its kind of a good thing if there was parity from say the last 16 or last 32 in terms of prize money. I just don't think that Womens tennis has enough strength in depth to have equal prize money right back to the first round losers.

but why should they get paid as much when only play 60% as long?

Ah but maybe it should therefore be pay-per-set as a blokes match can be 3-0 result and the lasses can be 2-1.
Shit sport mind.

It does vary match from match. Maybe they should play best of 5 sets from the 4th round onwards and then from the last 16 they get paid equally.
Milgod - February 22, 2007 04:30 PM (GMT)
Set by set wouldn't reward good players though.

I'd be fine with that, but I doubt female players would.
Also, why is it that women players can enter a male golf tournament and not vice versa?

I think they would. There is one tournament at the end of the season where they do play best of 5 set matches so its not like they havent played them before.

Well I think we will have to disagree. If they were forced to i'm sure they would be fine, but there would be a hell of a fuss about it IMO.

Putting LPGA pro's into the mens tour is pure marketing I'm afraid. Its a money thing for the tourney sponsors. End of.
I do play (not on tour of course) and follow all the tours closely. Nintendo Wie or whatever her name is made a right twat of herself when 'falling ill' and been taken off the course with an oxygen cylinder coz she was playing crap.
Milgod - February 22, 2007 05:20 PM (GMT)
The thing with Wie is that she is so young still. Even male players can't compete at that age.

Yes and her first name should be Needa.

Shit tittle to a thread by the way.

This is a pile of w*nk.
I'm all for equality but they're going to get more £/hr played than the blokes. How is that equal?
And seriously, would you want to see the crap tennis women play over 5 sets??? Men's tennis is dull enough ffs.

The reason why she played on the mens tour those times is because the LPGA have a limit on the number of tournaments someone her age can play to protect them from playing to much. Not to surprisingly it was her dads idea she play in the mens events the weeks she was ineligible to play on the LPGA tour. Burnt out by the time she's 21 because of pushy parents is sadly what i predict will happen to her

I have to agree with you Millie if the guys have to play more then the womens pay is diproportionate to the amount of tennis they have to play and therefore discriminatinory against the men.

Yeah but it's more entertaining watching a well balanced game between two part time housewives, than watching the men play ace after ace!
