Questions by Shorts:
Here you go Musta, we all know you support Leeds so I thought I’d go for getting to know you more…….

1. You’re obviously very well read, from the age of 16 what, where, and why did you study the subjects you chose.

2. Carrying on with the education theme, what three things would you change with the current education system in England? Why?

3. Describe your perfect day – who’s the company? Where are you? What are you eating and drinking? What music’s on?

4. If you were asked to mentor a teenager what 5 things would you continually stress to them? Why?

5. Is the 606 Rebels board just another football message board or does it offer something else? Give your reasons

6. You are Manny Cussins and senior players are lobbying you to get rid of Brian Clough, the man you’ve only recently appointed as manager of Leeds United. What do you do and why? You are allowed the benefit of hindsight

7. What’s the best holiday you’ve ever had and what made it so memorable?

8. You have the benefit (I think it is anyway!) of living in a different country with a different culture. What 3 things could we learn from the Spanish and, conversely, what 3 things could they learn from us?

9. You’re allowed to jam with any band at any time in history – who would it be with, why, and describe how it would feel

10. As detailed above, you’re into your music especially the guitar. Have you ever broken any kind of string……

Answers shortly.

Bloody Hell, Shorts, they're deeper than the normal tripe....... :lolanimate:
Looking forward to Musta's answers and how he's going to include a broken Banjo string in there.

1. You’re obviously very well read, from the age of 16 what, where, and why did you study the subjects you chose.

Aye, very well read, I read a fearsome amount, comes from not having a telly for the last 20 years, I think. Mostly, but not exclusively, porn.
I do read some other stuff 'cause I need to for work.
I studied Political Science at Leeds Uni (the Miners' Strike was happening at the time and I've a few tales to tell about that.....).
I chose politics 'cos I was young and daft. It was an error, because what really interests me is language, but , being a thick twat, I didn't realise it until quite a bit later. I went to work in Spain ( in Barcelona) as an English teacher and then did a postgrad in Linguistics at the University in Barcelona, so yes, I'm a cunning linguist. Rather a good one if I say so meself.

2. Carrying on with the education theme, what three things would you change with the current education system in England? Why?

1st. Pay the teachers a lot more. There is a massive problem with fuckwit kids dissing their teachers. Doesn't happen on the continent. I think one of the reasons teachers don't get the respect they deserve from chavs is because they know that their teachers aren't earning a lot. And we all know how much importance fuckwits place on bling. If the maths teacher turned up fer work in a Porsche instead of an Escort he'd get more respect.
2nd. Get rid of the A' levels and introduce a Baccalaureate at 17/18.
3rd. Take education policy out of the hands of the politicians and put it back into the hands of the professionals. In the same way that monetary policy was taken away from the Treasury and given to the Bank of England. ( I'd do the same for Health policy.)

3. Describe your perfect day – who’s the company? Where are you? What are you eating and drinking? What music’s on?

Oooooohhh , tricky.
Probably start with the missus and t'dogs on the beach near my house for an hour or so.
Stop off at Jose's beach bar and have a cold beer and a plate of grilled sardines. Louis Jordan would be on the bar's sound system.
Go home and sit in the garden with a book and a spliff 'til lunch. Fresh pasta and a salad for lunch, followed by an hour's siesta.
Get in the car ( Zappa on the stereo), drive to Bilbao or Santander to watch Leeds in the CL. Leeds win 3-2.
Get a taxi to one of the local bars where we've got a gig. Play a blinder. Another spliff, Sly 'n' Robbie on the sound system. The Missus drives me home.

More later.

Which is your favourite Louis Jordan track Musta?

Rich - May 9, 2007 10:17 AM (GMT)
He said describe your perfect day not your usual day! (except the bit about Leeds in the CL)

mustafaster - May 9, 2007 10:51 AM (GMT)
Wicky: Saturday Night Fish Fry.
Rich: Wrong, the missus never drives me anywhere. <_<

Rich - May 9, 2007 11:08 AM (GMT)
Not even round the bend or up the wall?

Good choice. I would have to go with 'Is you is or is you aint my baby' or 'What's the use of getting sober?'
I don't think I've ever heard of a Louis Jordan track that I haven't liked.

4. If you were asked to mentor a teenager what 5 things would you continually stress to them? Why?

I'm not the best person to mentor anybody, least of all a teenager, but.....

a. Do your own thing. It's a good idea to listen to advice, but ultimately you are in charge of your own destiny.

b. Learn something, anything for it's own sake, not because somebody else has told you it might " come in handy" or you think you might make some money out of it. I'd suggest a language or a musical instrument, but it could be anything, card tricks, tap dancing, photography.........

c. Shut the fuck up. You think you know it all but you don't. You learn much more with your gob shut and your eyes and ears open.

d. Go for it. When you're older you'll regret the things you didn't do much more than the things you did do. Don't be scared of failure, you learn more from your mistakes than from your successes.

e. Eerrr..... that's it.

5. Is the 606 Rebels board just another football message board or does it offer something else? Give your reasons

I'm not the best person to answer this, living so far away from the rest of you. I know the board has generated many important close friendships and for those people it's obviously more than a MB. But as I'm unlikely ever to shag any of the mods it's just a MB that I enjoy for me. It's still the first site I log onto every morning, though.

6. You are Manny Cussins and senior players are lobbying you to get rid of Brian Clough, the man you’ve only recently appointed as manager of Leeds United. What do you do and why? You are allowed the benefit of hindsight

I think Manny got it about right. It was a mistake to appoint Clough in the first place, the club was too big for him. He needed a club that he could stamp his ego onto, Leeds was too big for that. But, once it became clear that it was non-starter the thing was to cut the looses asap. Mannny did that, he had the balls to admit his mistake and bit the bullet. He also got the right man in Jock Stein, we were unlucky to lose him. I often think that if we'd had Big Jock at the helm for a few years we'd have been untouchable in Europe.

7. What’s the best holiday you’ve ever had and what made it so memorable?

My life is one long holiday.

8. You have the benefit (I think it is anyway!) of living in a different country with a different culture. What 3 things could we learn from the Spanish and, conversely, what 3 things could they learn from us?

What could the English learn from the Spanish?
1. How to drink. Getting ratarsed and terrorising town centres is not funny, not big, not clever.
2. Patience and self criticism.
3. How to treat kids, as young people, not as an alien species that needs to be tamed.

What could the Spanish learn from the English?
1. Respect your history and heritage, don't tear down every building more than 20 years old and replace it with a concrete cube.
2. Not to drive like a bleedin' maniac. The rules of the road apply to everybody, you are not the only person on the road.
3. Turn the bloody noise down a bit....

9. You’re allowed to jam with any band at any time in history – who would it be with, why, and describe how it would feel

Thelonious Monk on Piano: Miles Davis on Trumpet, Coltrane on Sax: Art Blakey on Drums: Musta on bass.
Unimaginable.......

10. As detailed above, you’re into your music especially the guitar. Have you ever broken any kind of string……
Might have.......

since i bought the house over in spain, and now go over 5 or 6 times a year.......i think the only thing i will never get used to is the standard (or lack of it) of drivers over there.

in the uk, tailgating means only just being able to see the number plate of the guy behind, what i've found over in spain is, if you cant count his teeth.....he aint tailgating!!!!

love the rest of what the country has to offer though.

Have met a bar tender in mexico and the guy who rented me a car in san fran also had the same surname (for company integrity reasons he also couldnt rent me the car as we had the same name)

When i checked into a hotel in barca the lady saw my name and stared spouting jibberish at me (spansih apparently) until i saw ' i dont understand a word your saying love!!'

Oh well - thank goodness for the armarda eh

Try China, nothing can be worse than that. Why use your wing mirrors before moving across lanes when you can just been your horn and go for it?

Nice stuff Musta.
