Title: Blade Runner

Not sure if any of you have been following the story of Oscar Pistorius. He is the fastest amputee in the World and wants to compete in able bodied events.
OscarThere is a debate over whether the blades give him an advantage or not. I personally don't think he should be allowed to compete, anyone have any opinions?

Yes he is a replicant, and as such should have Deckard 'retire' him with that big fuck off gun.

My opinion is that he shouldnt be able to compete against fully able athletes as its impossible to know how much the blades would be an improvement or a detriment to his ability.
It's just a stunt by athletics meets to get a bit more profile for there events but i cant exactly blame them as they don't get the coverage that they used to.

Same views hear as he should not be allowed to compete with the Able Body Athlets. Only on the basis that a through investigation is done to confirm that he does not get extra help from his Blades. I personally beleive that he does but then again I am not a specialist.

Let him run, his Pb is two secs slower than the fastest able bodied bloke.
They should compete against each other but they should be separate records if Pistorius gets the world record.
I believe it's already done by the different categories of disability so why can't they do it with everyone. Just combine everyone, if the guys fast then he should be allowed to compete, jeez the guys had a shite start in life and he's turned it around using the blades, why not let him get the recognition?
If he was using drugs to be faster then i'd understand it but he's using the blades to do something he enjoys.

I'm not sure about this one. I watched him run last night and he was clearly at a disadvantage in the wet, but was obviously grateful of the opportunity to run with those he would like to emulate. I'm sure that there were a few British runners with faster PB's who would much rather have had the lane themselves, my brother probably included, though I haven't seen him to discuss it.
Personally I'd be happy for him to run with able bodied athletes if it were proven that he doesn't gain an advantage by running on the blades. It could be that he's simply an average althlete who has done well, but I'd like to think that he is the talent that he wants to be.
Whatever the outcome, fair play to him for giving it a go.
