Title: o/t burning vlc and winrar files to cd or dvd

garlic bread - July 22, 2008 06:57 PM (GMT)
I have asked the below question on waccoe but want to know if anybody else can help on here...

I have tried the search facility and the tinterweb, but everything seems gobbledegook...I just want a plain english process...

I have downloaded a couple of films from a torrent site.

The winrar file ends TS.XviD-PreVail and has about 30 files..
The other file ends then same but is a VLC media file (.avi)

I can play the above files on the laptop, but how do I transfer to cd or dvd?

I have tried a couple of times (and have lots of placemats as a result ) but maybe missing something.

I have a roxia creator burning software...is nero better??

HELP!!!!!

Thanks in advance for sensible replies

Cheers

I use Nero for that kind of thing. Its actually pretty simple.

Not much experience with Roxio.

You'll need to extract the rar file first I would have thought.

I'm really useful.

From what I understand, if the file is a divx type, and your DVD player is capable of playing divx files, you should just be able to burn it and play it.

If, however, the file is avi or windows player type files (anything not divx), or your player doesn't play divx types, you will need to convert it, then burn the converted files (a cue, a couple of DOBS, and such and such)

It's not your burner, certain types of download need a codec to decrypt the file type to something you can burn to a DVD - I've downloaded some stuff that needs a file downloaded that converts what you've downloaded.

Try typing the file extension (eg .avi) and codec into google, should find something.

found some good free software that converts any file into any file

so i have converted the avi and vlc files to mpeg. Will try to burn tonight and see what happens. Failing that...I could teach myself how to play the laptop on the TV..that could be easier
