Title: Beckford: The Season So Far?

YB - September 17, 2008 09:38 AM (GMT)
The lad has already scored ten goals this season, at the same time last season it was six goals (according to the matchday programme). So what is the current thinking on Beckford? Will he continue to score so freely? Does he look as good as the match reports are suggesting? Last year he frequently only showed up to pop in the goals and quite often went missing the rest of the time. Has his game developed and is he getting stuck in? How are his partnerships working out and who is the best strike partner for him?

I guess the biggest question is, if he is so good, can we hold on to him in the January transfer window? And if he did leave how would we do?

I'm looking forward to my first trip of the season up to ER on the 27th for the Hereford match - the missus has bought me a ticket as an anniversary pressent... in return I haven't bought her one to see Newcastle - she seems pleased with that.

I think it's the quality of the service delivery that has improved and means he can no longer go missing out on the wing - keep him central, feed the ball in and lets see how his strike ratio is. He was left to do too much last season rather then the role he is paid to do, now he can concentrate on hitting the net.

He has scored 4 in the 3 games I have seen him in, even though he seems to have been stuck out on the wing for long periods. From the four two were quality finishes (2nd against Rovers, first against Swindon), one was a deflection and one was pretty standard. He seems to be on form and can be depended upon to take any decent chance. Becchio seems to battle harder up front and they seem to link up ok. Showumni is just a battering ram when we're down and need a goal.

I agree with the above and would add that we're playing better football and with more striker/forward options in Becchio, Snodgrass and Robinson it's keeping him on his toes.

PS - I hope Wise stays at Newcastle, he's doing a great job!!

So, was Beckford a bit crap on Saturday or did I miss something? He should have scored about three goals, or at the very least passed the ball to Beccio who was in better positions. It's not fair to expect him to score everytime he plays, I know, but he had a couple of easy chances by his standards, especially the one-on-one with the keeper.

I think Beccio looks a really great signing, so much better than Trevor O'Kangoo. White was awesome, so was Delph and Robbo, in fact, the whole team looked much improved over last year and look how well we did last season.

I'm very excited about this season now and although I don't want mention the 'P' word, I think we might finally be on the up.

to continue at this rate would mean 40+ by the end of the season (not likely).

Barring injury, he'll get 25-30 which will be a great return.

Yeah, in the ONE season he has played for us regularly during that period, he wasn't injured or anything!
