HI ,
we have just recieved confirmation from the tazzie gov that we have been accepted for STNI and we have also been acceepted by SA,we are off for our medicals today and the whole application will be lodged as soon as the results of the blood test come back.

We would like some of youre thoughts on this there seems to be plenty of work for us in both states nursing and car spraying, time is ticking and we have to make our mind up soon ;) HARRY

This is a subject close to my heart. Even after all the moaning about Roy looking at Tas I can see the appeal. Personally I thought there wasn't enough there to entertain the kids as they got older. Another factor that put Roy off was talking to his Uncle who said he knows of quite a few people that fly over to the mainland for work from Tas as there are few jobs out there. That said with a nursing job I couldn't see much of a problem.

I think this is something that you will have to decide yourselves and I know it is a difficult decision to make. Have you compared pices and other factors to help make your mind up? I have compared staff pupil ratios, patients to beds ratios, crime ratios, cost of living etc.

Did you have my agents number out in Tas from the exhibition? He also had videos and CD's if they are any good to you. I'm sure he would give you any information that you wanted to help you make up your mind.

Phew that was a game - pc crashed just when I'd written a reply but at least I was still able to copy and save to paste here now... here it is as it was!

Er.... take a month's holiday and spend 2 weeks in each place, then decide B)

Failing that, I don't know. I haven't been to Tazzie though have a feeling I'd probably love the place - or would it be just too quiet and rural, as has been said about NZ? I wouldn't like to say until I've been there and had a look around.

How about asking yourselves what kind of place you would feel comfortable and be able to find work in - big city, smaller city, big town, small town, out in the country.

Then ask yourselves what sort of weather you really like - it gets hotter in Adelaide than it does in Taz, dryer in Adelaide, wetter in Taz. So dry here it gets very brown and dessicated and you spend half your time watering the garden. But then you'd have more rainy days in Taz. Are you a true sun worshipper or do you like to live in a green place?

Do you like to lead a totally modern life, or would you be happy and contented going back in time 20 or 30 years? I've heard it said that Taz can be a bit old fashioned in that way - though again it's only what I've heard. (I've also heard people say that about Adelaide mind you, though I wouldn't particularly agree here!)

Tasmania is on my must-do list, only trouble is it won't be for a while yet so I don't think I can make any more useful suggestions than that :(

I just thought my step aunty lives in Hobart I'll see if I can get her email address for you and see if she can help. I think she moved there from somewhere like Melbourne or Sydney years ago. My Step mother always says she is the mad one of the family so I have to admit that I didn't bother contacting her our of fear! :o

Elaine - good post a lot of good poitns to think about.

Well just got back after a week driving around TAS,[1500km] the first thing that struck me as we ,flew over the coast was how green it was, after looking at brown for the last 6mths. The history of the place is facinating having been settled 100yrs before SA, we did PORT ARTHUR,the convict settlement was well worth the two days we spent there, HOBART seems very vibrant, the salamanca markets well worth a visit, but its bloody cold, after heading for QUEENSTOWN on the west coast,we ran into a small snow storm in the central highlands, this is when i decided TAS was too cold for me, seems to be plenty of Manual work, truck driving etc, Availble, as for admin /I.T ?? tourism seems to be the future, for this place ,as there is so much to see.....................mm
