Hi Helen,

I've been with Westpac since April and have been happy. Their fees are pretty low in my opinion and situation. They've been very helpful in my dealings with them. You can also open your account from the UK before you go.

ANZ have recently been voted the best all round bank for the 5th time in a row so they may be worth considering.

We opened our account when we went to Adelaide last year.

First impressions - really nice helpful staff - account opened in no time (passports only needed).

Our 'handycards' (bank cards) arrived here in UK in 5 days from the day we went into the office!!

We pay a fixed fee per month for unlimited EFTPOS use and no limit on number of withdrawals from ATM's.

So far so good...

Helen,
We've decided to open accounts with westpac as well after looking at several others, their fees seem reasonable compared to the Commonwealth Bank.
Not too sure about westpac credit cards though, $100 a year fee? :68: Bit hard to swallow after years of Morgan Stanley paying us for the privilege of using their cards? :D
David.

Hi

Thanks for the help

We had a phone call from HFX last night

Now a bit worried about the $ as if the interest rate drops they reckon it will affect the $ badly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are they just chasing us for money or

Do we wait to see what happens later on

A differncew in the £ ca n make a big difference for us in Oz

|HFX are ringing me again tonight so I will update this later

We are going to go with Westpac BAnk too

I don't know about them as an everyday bank but we are just in the process of applying for a mortgage and they would barely lend us enough to buy a caravan!!! :what?:

We are currently with the Commonwealth bank and are seriously considering a change to ANZ as we've heard some really good things about them and they too have an account with one set fee for unlimited transactions.

Heard pretty much the same thing from a bloke from Currencies Direct at the York Emigration Fair a few weeks back. He said a rate cut would make the £ less attractive & therefore the value would fall against the Oz $
Checked on xe.com today & there wasn't any immediate sign of a fall?
