Title: OAA
Description: With Dogs?
Mr&MrsE - August 6, 2005 10:30 PM (GMT)
Hi there
has anyone used OAA and had dog(s) with them?
Just wondered if it is possible and if it was ok with securely fenced gardens?
Thanks
Lynne

Hi Lynne,
I can't answer your question but can't you time it so the dog arrives after you?(Don't forget that there's 30 days quarantine in Melbourne) In the meantime you could look for a rental that will accept dogs. This is what we did and it all fell into place eventually.

We brought our dogs over and stayed in OAA accomadation so its no problem provided that they have suitable housing available. You will find that your choices for renting will be limited though and we ended up buying a place straight away. On another note, most councils will only let you keep a maximum of two dogs.

we had OAA and had a dog "no worries" but remember the OAA is very popular and having a dog limits your opportunity but we were ok and had fenced secure garden although only stayed there 2 1/2 wks as found this rental we are in now!!! we were ok they let us have a dog but when we asked if we could get a cat they said no!! dont know why dogs are smellier than cats!!! :D

Thanks for your replies.
We have two Bichon Frise :dancing dog: :dancing dog:
We intend flying to Melbourne first and having a months holiday so we should be able to give the OAA plenty of notice. Although we see from recent posts that the OAA seem to be extra busy just now.
Is it correct that the rental companies ask for doggy references? If so would a letter from our vet and current Uk neighbours suffice?
Thanks

We don't have a dog but we have a cat. Even though the agent added to the rental agreement that he would be an outside pet, they also added a clause stating that at the end of the tenancy we would have the place cleaned removing pet hair and also to make good any damage caused by our pet. I would probably expect something along those lines.

Hi there, can you tell me how long it took you from putting in an offer on your house to moving in. We are planning to do the same thing in March and dispense with renting.

Hi Cookster,
On average I think it's about 30 days. Ours was only two weeks as the sellers had already moved interstate so the house was empty.
So if you find a nice empty house for sale it will go through quicker.
