Title: Flying via Hong Kong
Description: Any info on hotels

Hi All
Have found a really good priced flight that flies via Hong Kong. Only snag is there is a 16 hour stop. Have looked on the airport site and apparently there is only one hotel. Seems a bite expensive at around $300 U.S a night. Seems minimum stay is one night (not like the Transit hotel in singapore, where you can book 6 hour blocks). Problem is I may have to travel on my own, and am a bit worried about being able to stay awake for that length of time. Has anyone had experience of a cheaper hotel, and is it safe for a more mature woman to travel alone in Hong Kong. (getting paranoid now!!!! :lol2: )
Thanks
Lesley.

G'day Lesley
We stopped over in Hong Kong last year for 3 nights, you will certainly get better deals if you travel into Hong Kong Island or Kowloon. At the airport there you can leave most of your luggage,so you only need to travel light, there is an express train station actually in the airport you can get or just outside you can get the Red taxi.We found the people there very polite and helpful you should have no worries traveling on your own, word of warning though, make sure your plastic bends well if you go to the shopping malls some very tempting bargins going,we brought a digital camera in the UK priced £550 Hong Kong £338 I got a watch UK £300 Hong Kong £120.

Just remembered we booked through Need A Hotel,Viv done it on the internet, you can have a look at their web page.
www.needahotel.com or give them a ring on 08702413489.
The name of the hotel we stopped at was Island Pacific can really recommend it,can't remember how much we paid though.
Hope info helps you out.
Best of luck

We stayed at the Shangri La in Kowloon and it was absolutely FAB! However I did get it at travel industry rates so it only cost £250 for 3 nights for all of us. We hope to stop there for a wek on our way through if we can afford it!

What I forgot to say was, try and stay a bit longer if you can, seems a shame to fly through and not have a butchers! Cathay are a great airline, they make BA look like Easyjet.

Every time I have flown via HK I have wished for more time so I could get out of the airport and see the city.
The sight of Hong Kong at night from a plane is one of the most magical things I have ever seen.
