Title: Removal firms and storage
Rob Morton-Jones - August 8, 2005 02:47 PM (GMT)
The idea is to move over to Oz and rent for 6+ months before we were to buy a house and rather than get our belongings shipped to the rental accomodation we were thinking of perhaps keeping our things in storage till we bought.
Just thinking that we would have to un pack andpack up everything again plus the extra costs involved.
Has anyone done this before at all?
Is it costly to keep your goods in storage for a while?

From what a couple of the removals companies have told me it's cheaper to store in Oz, though I have no idea what the costs are as it depends on how much you've got etc etc.

Hi Rob,
We had a quote from PSS & on it it says that :
STORAGE AT DESTINATION IF REQUIRED IS BASED ON ESTIMATED VOLUME OF HOUSEHOLD EFFECTS. HANDLING CHARGES (ONE ONLY CHARGED) $71.00, STORAGE CHARGE $19.00 PER WEEK.
Hope this helps you a little :D

The costs are quite cheap.
Just a word of advice - after our furniture was stored at U Storage all of our mattresses etc came back with a dose of bed-bugs and other nasties. They were easily exterminated but a nuisance none the less.
They didn't seem to like me either, much preferring the blood of my better half.
Wrap 'em up in plastic and you should be alright.
Cheers

Have you considered that 99.9% of rentals here are unfurnished Rob?
Julia :)

Hi Rob
When you see the difference in price between furnished (ie holiday let) and unfurnished rentals you'll find the cost of storage is the least of your worries. I would say think $250 per week for unfurnished 3 bed family house rental, and maybe $500 - $600 + per week for something like a holiday cabin or apartment, furnished.

WE got back from our delivery run about 2pm, their was a young couple [english] going through their ,newly released goods . They were picking out what they would need while in rental, we are storing the rest till further notice. I will try and get you a cost for a 20ft container load..........................mm
