Title: Anyone flown with Cathay Pacific?

sunnyj - August 11, 2005 07:49 PM (GMT)
I phoned Travelbag today for the cheapest flight around mid-October and they came up with Cathay Pacific.
I said that I hadn't heard much about their reputation and they said that they have just updated their cabin entertainment system.
You also get extra baggage allowance and the stop off is in Hong Kong.

As anyone flown with them and if so, what were they like?

Hi Julie

We flew with Cathay Pacific in 1999 / 2000 and they were great! :D

I'm not sure how they perform now though, i'm sure they will be fine :chuckle:

We used them in Dec last year, couldn't fault them. ;)

Up to date planes and entertainment.

Crew were brilliant with the kids, plenty of drinks as much as you wanted, food was well aircraft food,I don't think that changes much with who ever you fly with, you did get a choice though,if you have kids ring them 72hrs before your flight and they will have kids meals.

Best of luck

Ditto. I work in Long Haul travel and flew them for the first time last year. I can honestly say that they are the best airline I have flown with. Nice 747-400 and then Airbus on to Adelaide. The crew couldnt do enough for us and took Toby for a cuddle for over half an hour (he was 5 months then) and came back he was fast asleep in her arms. She lay him in the sky cot, winked and walked off! :P A top airline , hope to fly with them again when we make the move.

Flew over here in April with them, having previously used the 2 big ones !!!!. They were definately better, from the service to the food, to the entertainment. :)

I've used them twice - 1999 and last year, and thought they were great. Last time my stopover in HK was only 80 minutes each way which was a bonus. HK airport is a delight to travel through. The food is ok, but last time was not a patch on what we got en route 6 years ago, and I think the meals were considerably smaller. The jumbo I was on from HK to LHR had quite smelly loos too. I'd definitely use them again though.

Thanks for your replies, I must admit I hadn't thought of them before because most people were recommending Malaysian or Singapore airlines.
If they come up as the cheapest when it is time to book, I won't hesitate to fly with them.

I wish I could book now but we are in the proceeds of selling the house at the moment, they have had the searches done and the survey so, we are just waiting for a date.

It's worth a thought, Disney Hong Kong but we are already having 2 weeks on the Gold Coast before we head down to Adelaide so, we will have to see.

Cathay Pacific are one of the best when it comes to legroom in Economy - a 34" seat pitch compared to Singapore's 32". Malaysian also have 34". BA and Qantas give you a measley 31". The minimum allowable in UK law is 26" by the way.

Seat pitch = the distance from the back of your seat to the back of the seat in front of you.

One of the few airlines to achieve 5 stars by Skytrax. This web site will give you lots of info about the airlines and airports!

Hi all

I'm flying with Cathy Pacific in Sept. Does anyone know if your luggage gets automatically transfered to the onward flight, or do you have to reclaim amd then re book in.

Ta

Lesley.

Hi Lucy

Have just booked mine, leaving on the 26th Sept. Hopefully house sale will have completed by then, and Martin will be able to book a ticket. If not he will come out as soon as house is finished. We have applied for the OAA now, so fingers crossed. I start my new job in Adelaide on 10th October.

Have fun at the Horsham meet tomorrow.

Lesley.
