Title: One way flight
Description: anyone book insurance?

Hi all

Was just wondering peoples views on whether its a good idea to book insurance for the one way flight to Adelaide. Quotes are coming in at around £20. Not much In the grand scheme of things, I know, but every pound counts. Wasn't sure if the ordinary holiday insurance would cover it as only travelling one way.

Thanks for your thoughts

Lesley

I think the post office's quote for us 3 was around £48 for one way insurance.

We're going to get insurance in case any baggage goes missing or flights are cancelled etc as have been stung beforeand it would cost more that that to replace the bags and clothes so I reckon it's worth it. However not many flights get cancelled and bags go missing (although the MIL has only flown 3 times and she's had her bag go missing!) so it's really up to how lucky you're feeling! ;)

You do have to make sure it's the right insurance for a one way trip, not ordinary holiday insurance. Also it's worth checking your household insurance - some have a clause which covers travel.

Thanks all

Have found the cheapest at EBookers at £13.67. Will give them a ring to see if it's the right sort.

Hi All

Phoned E Bookers insurance and they said that the on line quote for single trip insurance to Aus and Newzealand was the right one for a one way trip. Cost was £10.18 for the basic 'silver' cover, which covers me for (amongst other things) £2 million medical and repatriation and £500 baggage. Their web address is www.insurancebookers.com phone number 08708146054 for anyone interested.

...I wonder where they'd 'repatriate' you too from a one-way trip :lol2:

I wouldn't go anywhere without insurance. Working airside at Manchester I see the full horrors of what can happen.

Bags fall off the trollies as the handlers drive them to and from aircraft. It could be several hours before it gets picked up. Usually long after the plane has departed or you are back at home.

I always pull the drivers up, having had stuff lost myself, I know what a pain it is. The labels they put on the bags mean that you will get the bag back eventually but it could be several days. Especially if you have got a few days stop over anywhere.

Definately don't have a case each, split your gear up so if one goes missing, there is something to wear in another case.

If you have a tight connection timewise, that's when lots of bags miss the flight and take a day to catch up.

Gavin

A condition of the insurance is that you have been resident in the UKfor at least 6 months prior to travelling, so i would presume it would be back to the UK.

The night before Steve was due to fly ahead to start work in Sydney he broke his ankle :(

This time round the day we were due to fly out I ended up in the local A&E and we had to rebook for the next day & were a lot lighter in the wallet :( We did have insurance but THAT'S another story!

Now who said lightning does'nt strike twice??? And we've given up on Lotto! <_<
