I took copies of all our G.P notes and also all my obstretic (sp?) medical history from the hospital as it was quite involved. The G.P notes were free but the hospital ones were £50 :sign68:

And.....

I haven't needed them once <_< They did look at my past pregnancy/labour notes but I had remembered all the relevant details anyhow.

Still it's good to relive my labours through the notes (they make me laugh now  )

I'd say (IMO) they're not that important unless there's a serious medical condition to be considered.

Hi Helen

I have not bothered with any GP notes at all.
I had a hysterectomy 9 yrs ago and have got a letter from consultant, stating when, why, and no probs since.
Also one of my girls had a hip problem for many years and I done the same, re a consultants letter with all the details.
We have our meds day after tomorrow, at Handsworth Wood, if I have any probs regarding lack of info, complaints etc I will let you know.
But I really would not bother unless there is a specific problem.
Carole

Sorry Helen
Iv'e got the wrong end of the stick!!! I thought you meant for meds, just ignore me

Hi Helen,

I was also going to get all our medicals records from our GP but after reading other posts on Ex/pats, I dont think that we'll need them so I dont think that I'll bother :D

Hi

We were going to get our medical records copied too but again after reading this post and others I don't think we will bother either. I suppose if there was a problem in australia we could always contact the uk if any details were required?

Apparently you can ask for a print out from your GP that they give to the doctors on call - for free. Just ask!!!!!

Haven't done it yet myself - but will do so!

When we went for our medicals some months back now I asked our doctor to write about the medication we are getting regularly. We each take one tablet - mine is thyroxine and Steve takes one for his stomach.

I had to pay £10 for each line his secretary typed!!!!
A total rip off so I certainly would not bother with my medical notes!!

I don't think we will bother taking our medical records. I have a letter from the hospital about Emilys heart murmur and will take that with their red books.

Helen, there is a maximum that they are allowed to charge you, there's a set of guidelines somewhere on a NHS website to say what they can and can't charge - I've found it fairly easily by searching for it before, don't know if it's in FAQ now but gotta take kids to school so can't hunt right now. I think the MAX was 50 pounds???

But unless you have particular medical history you want to take, why worry? Do make sure you have vaccination records though.

Our surgery printed off about a page for each of us which just contained dates of jabs etc, which I have never had to show to anyone. They did this for free. No doubt our official records have now been filed/lost in the NHS system.

Bring kids red books along but like other people say, if you haven't got any medical problems, wouldn't bother with any records.

Here's the info:

Can a fee be charged?
Yes, and the fee varies depending on the type of record and whether the patient wants copies of the records or just to see them.
To provide access and copies:
Records held totally on computer: £10
Records held in part on computer and in part manually: a reasonable fee of up to £50
Records held totally manually: a reasonable fee of up to £50

Found here: http://www.bma.org.uk/ap.nsf/Content/accesshealthrecords

I think I would argue that 1 pound per sheet is an excessive charge for photocopying, even allowing for someone's time to do it.... I wonder what the citizens advice would have to say about this?

Another part here http://www.dh.gov.uk/PolicyAndGuidance/Inf...9714&chk=iOJNGp
says that the charges "should not result in a profit for the record holder".

So you could argue that the copy cost of say 5p max per sheet, plus maybe an hour of the receptionist's time, should be the max you should pay!

We didn't bring any of our medical records over as our doctor's wanted £50 per person for them. We decided that £200 would be well spent else where. As others have said I really don't think you would need them anyway. Good luck with your plans.

We got a letter to say which jabs we have had

paid £40.00 (£10.00 each)

They even had the cheek to put us all on one piece of paper - would have thought we could have had 4 sheets for that price, even with gold trimmings - cheep stakes I guess.
