Title: Justin Crescent, Christie Downs for OAA address
Description: Any info on house, street or area
Nickram - August 16, 2005 06:21 PM (GMT)
Ok we got our OAA address today and any info on the house, street or suburb would be appreciated.
Justin Crescent, Christie downs
I would like an honest (non fluffy) ;) opinion. I know some people are easily upset if you write anything negative about their area, so feel free to PM me if you prefer.
We're really glad to get anything and will be accepting it anyway, but any info beforehand would be great.
Thanks everyone

Nick I received this PM when I was asking about OAA before we cam eout, remember this is from someone else not me!!!
Hi
Our friends used OAA about 7 weeks ago. They were unlucky and put in Christie Downs. This is a rough area. They were burgled on the second night and lost alot of important things. They also had friends on the OAA who were burgled. Besides that the accommodation was basic but okay. If you get a good area you should be okay. If you are put in Christie Downs then just make sure you take all documentation and money each time you leave the property. The trouble is the local crooks know what this accommodation is used for and so it can be targeted. I can only speak for Christie Downs as that is where my friends were. There is a chap on the website under smiley, he is currently staying in OAA but I don't know where, probably worth getting his advice.
Sorry could not be more positive. I just hate to see it happen to anyone again. It has put a big downer on the whole emigration thing for themand I replied and they sent back this one
No they didn't move them, so they found alternative accommodation quickly. Then at the migration meeting the SA Government had the audacity to tell people not to live in Christie Downs because it was such a bad area. Why put you down there in the first place. They lost some documents and some personal things which were irreplaceable.
Please don't let me put you off Aus though. I just don't understand why they put people in high crime areas. On the other hand I would hate for anybody else to lose possessions. The thing that really worries me is documentation. It would be a real headache to try and replace, passports, birth certificates, driving licence and all the other things you have with you. At least if you know you can make an informed decision. Our friends were totally blind to it all.
You will have a great time in Aus.
If we can help with anything else, shoutHi Candice
Glad you got meet and greet it will save you heaps, lets face it if you dont like what you are given you can always look for something else to rent, juls our rellie was at Justine Crescent Christie Downs, they moved from there into there own new home at Flagstaff Hill, this was 2yrs ago, at least you have 3 months to look around and see where you would like to settle. Anyway have a good flight over, and look forward to a good life in Australia ( Im really biased I love this Country ) Im sure you will love it tooI am due to start work soon and I will be based in Christies beach so will check it out for you if you like!!!
Also a cople of links to topic about OAA areas I started

Hi ,my great grandparents live just a few streets away from Justin Cr .As far as I know they have never had any specific problems .
Its an older area .
You will be close by the shops and trains at the Norlunga centre.
If we get a chance we could do a driveby
Nickram - August 17, 2005 11:20 AM (GMT)
Thanks for all the replies, including the many PM's. Well at least I know what to expect! Some friends have already done a 'drive by' (not the gun toting type) and even spoke to our neighbours to be, who incidentally are meeters and greeters (not meeting us but are meeting some new arrivals next door on the 24th, anybody from here?). It should give us a bit of time to drive around all the suburbs and see whereabouts suits us though.
Thanks for all the help.
ps David you've lost me on the colours thing, I know it must be a viz reference but I cant think what
Cheers everybody, Nick

Bet you've packed your UBD in the container somewhere haven't you Nick? Can't tell you much about the area as we ain't there yet :crying: But looking at the UBD, it's a fair way south of the CBD, about 20-25 km? Looks like Justin Cr. backs onto the Railway line that goes all the way up the coast & into the CBD (eventually) I was starting to get a wee bit worried about the area as there's a few streets round there that look like they'd be perfect if you're the sort of gent who's "good with colours" ;) Gregory, Jerome, Godfrey, Florian & Marcian, to name but a few; but then I found good old Finbar Crescent just over the other side of the track, fnar, fnar, kyak, kyak! :loopy: |
forgive me for being stupid but what is a UBD

I know Justin Cres just over the road is the railway station, good for Noarlunga Centre , ( thats shopping town ) train to city, people that we knew had no probs there, they are as you say bungalows, they were not too bad, its a place to stay when you get here, you can always find somewhere else if you dont like it

Its not about "PC" though, thats just dismissive, its just about not excluding, insulting people? which I'm you would never want to do :sign61:
blackcountrygirl - August 18, 2005 11:20 AM (GMT)
Pieman, dont go upsetting people when you are not in oz, you dont know what the people are like and you don`t know the area a lot of people will not like your comments
We are multicultural here and if you cant accept this then you may as well stay where you are

OK, Time out, sorry everyone, please!
It was a daft joke about the street names, I saw something funny in them, obviously nobody else did, I have a sick sense of humour, I apologise.
David.

Having read and re-read this post, I can't see as Pieman was meaning to cause offence.
There's been no bickering for a couple weeks so come on - lets all play nice :D
pompeyblonde - August 18, 2005 11:29 AM (GMT)
I don't consider what was said as "bickering" and I think you'll see it has now been resolved so who is carrying it on......?
"end of"

I remember Justin Crescent being discussed around 18 months ago before I moved here, and the general consensus of opinion was that it was one of the better ones.
I'm around that area fairly frequently - what's the exact address?
