Title: Unlocking Mobile phones from UK
Description: to use with Australian Sim Card

sueb - September 23, 2005 11:23 PM (GMT)
We bought 4 Nokia mobile phones with Vodaphone pay as you go Sim Cards out here, but want to change them to accept Australian Sim Cards. I have been in touch with VPhone in UK and here, but no one seems to be able to help with the unlock code on the phone. Has anyone else had this problem, or found a shop that can help?? It's so frustrating as I have had to buy another couple of phones here, but not as good as the ones we brought over. :help:

hello there i bought 2 nokia phones before coming out and went to a shop that specialises in unlocking phones he charged me a tenner for each phone and tests them with another sim card in front of you to prove that it worked!!
depending on which shop you go in they should steer you toward someone who offers this service!

Thanks Andy, It worked :bouncy: I can't believe how easy it was. I also used my phone card on this number so didn't cost that much at all. If only I had asked earlier I would have saved myself a lot of stress.

I know we are still in the Uk, but we have 2 vodafone contracts phones, and i phoned up vodafone who gave me the codes to unlock both phones!

our contracts run out in november which is good timing as we are hoping to be in adelaide by then!

We are hoping that we can just bring both our phones with us and put aus sim cards in..... am I right?

Yep. If they've given you the codes and you've put them in correctly. If you use a sim on another network and it works then it'll work with any sim.

So i take it that if i have a vodaphone with a vodaphone sim card in the uk and want to change my UK vodaphone sim card for a vodaphone Oz sim card, then i have to get my phone unlocked?

Or is that only if i want to change to another network, for example, Vodaphone to Virgin

I'm fairly certain that you'd need to unlock it. Why not activate one of your Aussie sims and see if it works in your phone? You have 60 days to use the credit. If you're still in the UK as the time your credit expires, top up with $20 and transfer it to the 360 plan (or keep it on the same one where your credit will be valid for another 60 days).

I believe the two Vodafone networks are totally separate, so my guess would be that if it's locked to the UK one you'd still need to get it unlocked to join the Oz one.

I have just this minute un blocked my Nokia 3310 and i can now use it on any network and it did not cost me a penny :yeehah:
