We didn't know this when we flew out here, but having just seen my parents on their flight home I thought I'd post it up for anyone due to fly out here with Singapore Airlines.
You can check in via internet for your flight on their website from 48 hours prior to the flight - you can also at this stage pre-select your seats. There is a very good site, called something like SeatGuru (do a google search for it) where you can call up the aircraft you'll be on and see which seats are where, and the pros and cons of certain seats. You need to have your passport numbers handy when you do this.
The main disadvantage I can see is that this negates any chance of a 'check-in upgrade' but how many people get that anyway?!
There are one or two foibles still with the system - mainly that if your journey is in two legs, checking in for the first leg 48 hours before automatically checks you in for the onward leg, but there is no way of selecting or seeing your seats beforehand for this second leg. Only way round is to wait for 48 hours before the 2nd leg then check in for both at that time! Does that make sense? Coming from the UK, I think I'd want to make sure I got 'good' seats for the first, longest, flight.
Dunno if this will help anyone!
