Ok, there are spiders in South Australia...
Some are not so nasty, a couple are...
The spiders you are likely to come across in metropolitan Adelaide are as follows;
Redbacks - virtually everywhere! They particularly like living underneath garden furniture. Pretty deadly too. However.... They are not an aggressive spider, they are more likely to curl in a ball and try and roll away than have a go.
Also, the venom takes a long time to do it's work, so you should have plenty of time to reach the hospital.
Lastly, it's only the females that bite.
Huntsmen - big, fast impressive spiders. Like running around houses/cars/sheds.
Not deadly, but do pack quite a punch and can be aggressive.
Black house spiders - live in untidy webs about the shed and garage
not deadly but can bite
White tail spider - again, hang around sheds and such places, but often found in houses.
Lots of other spiders about, including...
daddy long legs
wolf spiders
trapdoor spiders
mouse spiders
etc
Not a great deal of knowledge about spider venom and spider bites....so don't let any spider bite you
Necrotising arachnidism - The ulcerative disease associated with spider bites. Not hugely common. Usually blamed on the white tail, but no firm evidence to support that theory.
Spiders sound a lot scarier than they actually are....after about 4 weeks here, you won't give them a second thought B)
