Friends of ours have been living in Oz for 5 years now and are still using their uk tv etc. they are just using a lot of travel plugs around the house
Seriously, there is no problem. :cool shake:

When we were out there we heard that you can use them ok but you might need to buy a set top box of some sort and as butcher-boy said take plenty of travel plugs.

Excuse my ignorance, but why don't you change the plugs :what?:

You can change each individual appliance to have an Australian plug. That will let it plug into any power socket anywhere in Australia or New Zealand, especially if you're shifting house once or twice in the next year or so.
Some people just buy a "power board" with 4 or 6 outlets on it before they leave the U.K. to take all the British plugs on all the appliances brought from Britain, but that can be awkward. You have to all have your appliances near enough to the power board to plug them all in.
A British telly will work fine in Australia.
Videos too . . . no dramas
DVD players / recorders . . . you might have to consult one of the experts like Vince ("Delboy") or Andy . . . . about the the world wide codes for DVDs. Australia is lumped in with Sth. America, so unless you bring a DVD from Brazil or Argentina, you have to get the codes for the U.K. switched to the Australian code . . . . I think???
It can be done, though.

Electricity wise, TV's will work fine. Whether you can receive a picture at the same time as sound is another matter. If you're unlucky, you can always run the signal through an Oz video or set top box so you'll be able to sort it somehow.
Your DVD player will work fine, and will play all your old DVD's. Whether it will play new ones purchased here will depend on whether it is multi-regional, or whether a code is available to make it multi-regional.
There are no issues with videos, they all play just fine.
Telephones are another one where you might be lucky... or might not! Sometimes they work here sometimes they don't :loopy:

| What about plasma tv's? |
I've heard on here that you might have trouble getting them insured for the trip... you'd need to check that out though.
They'll have the same issues though I would guess, I can't remember the detail now, it's a different PAL system in Oz from UK and you'd need to check with the manufacturer whether your particular model will receive in Oz - otherwise you'll be using the workarounds above.

I'll let you know when my sony widescreen and 3 portable's arrive!!!!!!
But for those of you who maybe don't want to bring tv's etc.... we bought one here this week. Went to Radio Rentals place way up on the south road, where they sell ex rental stuff.
Its a 76 widescreen (i think?), about a year old, blimming good nick, paid $1000 including the stand. Paid on my english credit card, and its converted to around 440 pounds.
They sell loads of electrical stuff over there, worth a thought.

No, region 4!!
We unlocked our DVD players with an internet hack as well, all work fine now!
Our main TV works fine, plugged straight in, but out 2 older portables only have picture not sound, but we only brought them for the kids gamecubes etc.
