Elaine - May 27, 2004 08:08 AM (GMT)
The first whales this season have been spotted in the last few days around Encounter Bay. Check latest sightings here:

I have my binoculars at the ready in case any stray up my way (it does happen from time to time according to my neighbour)
All i keep seeing this week is "Willy Whiskers" our neighbourhood seal, and his mates, shopping around the rocks for shellfish. He is a very big boy who has elongated whiskers that look like a handlebar moustache. Tracey came for coffee today and got a good view of them through our binoculars.
No dolphins this week so far, but Pete the pelican has flown past a couple of times.
If i dont see a whale this winter i'm gonna be very upset!!!

I'm not sure that link is right, as i think that several weeks ago the news said that there were blue whales of Vic' harbour, although i didn't see them myself.

It will only take about an hour to get to Victor Harbour, the whales are absolutely amazing to see, they come in quite close to the shore. to see them with their babies is really lovely, I hope you guys that have not seen them try to get down there and have a look
