Title: Good websites for presents
Description: for Uk relatives to buy Oz presents

Nickram - December 2, 2005 10:59 PM (GMT)
Hi, can anybody tell me if there are any websites based in Australia (like amazon) where relatives in the uk can buy presents for the kids, without having to spend a fortune on shipping them out here.
(Does that make any sense? :what?: )
Thanks for any info
Nick

Hi Nick,

My parents have been researching this from the UK.

My Mum went into the Bank of Scotland and managed to get a cheque drawn up in Aus $, so she can simply post this to us in Aus and we can buy some pressies on her behalf.

Or

My mums friend went into the Early Learning Cntr in the UK and bought vouchers in UK currency and has sent those to us. We can use these at the ELCntr here in the UK and they simply convert them into AUS $ for us.

Or

My dad found a website called www.giftsaustralia.com.au and ordered vouchers for us from it, had them sent to us and we can order what ever we want from the website and have it delivered.

Cheers,
Mike

Hi, we have had family by bigw vouchers over the net so the kids get them & can spend it on what they like or you could buy then something with it. The vouchers come with whatever message the person sending wants to put, my daughter got them from 2 or 3 relatives & had quite a lot to spend.

Commonwealth bank said we can put British cheques made out for pounds into our account for a $5 fee.
So Dad is sending us a cheque.

You can try http://www.peedeetoys.com.au/

Also Amazon UK deliver to Australia now for a really nominal fee - something like 5 pounds (sorry, no pound sign on Aus keyboard!)

Just be aware that when you pay a Sterling cheque into an Australian bank account they take 30 days to clear!

We used this site for the kids birthday, seems to have loads on it. Paul's brother bought vouchers online from the states, but I'm sure you can do it from UK too. .. Must admit I haven't got round to spending the vouchers yet, so don't know how good they are at delivery etc.

Sorry I'm a bit late replying to this thread ..
