Title: Returning to UK
Description: advice on shipping

wd40 - January 15, 2006 10:26 PM (GMT)
Hi all,
After a very unsettling 3 months we have decided to return to the UK.
Adelaide is not for us. Genuinely no better for us here than back in the UK so we may as well be with our families.

I don't want to get into any debate i just would like information on returning to the UK.
I know people have done this and were wondering if anyone had advice on shipping companies and costs? I also want to send a suitcase of my children’s toys and a few personal things of ours back to the UK in advance of us returning home! Has anyone any names and numbers for any companies for this.

We also have a cat (kitten) that we would like to take back to the UK does anyone know how much this might cost and how long it would take?

Thank you in advance for any info you can help us with it is most appreciated.

WD.

I've not got any advice I'm afraid.

Just wanted to say I'm sorry it hasn't worked out for you and what a shame you have felt so unsettled.

Well done on giving it a go and I hope your move back goes OK.

Sorry to hear it hasnt worked out.
Not even done it yet so cant give much advice.
Did you know there is a 'returning to the uk' section on British Expats which you might find helpful for the sort of info you have mentioned above

I'm not sure how it works on the way back but there is an australian agent we had to contact when we got here. Toll-free 1800 21 66 98. tele (03) 9369 -0310. email ozenquires@sevenseasww.com. Hope this is of some use to you. Good luck ( we think about going home every other day!!! but gonna give it a bit longer)

Hi

why don't you use just a parcel firm like DHL to send your stuff back, put it in boxes rather than a suitcase. Might be a cheaper option.

I would contact Lyn Salmon at Allied Pickfords at Regency Park, she handled our move this way and was brilliant.

As for your kitten, have a look on British Expats, there's loads of recommended places on there and as said before the return to the UK section is very good there.
Or look in the Yellow Pages here in Adelaide, there must be something.

Hope you have a safe return to the UK, it will be wonderful to be back with your family and friends.

Here is the link for the official requirements for importation of the mog,

http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/quarantine/index.htm

suspect you cannot wait to qualify for PETS, but it would save money on quarantine - or could earn an early release, if you got the process going now[ish]

Shout for more if nec. Gerry

Hi WD,

Libby used Crown to ship her things back to UK. They charged her $7500 door to door including full packing service for a full 20ft container (standard 3 bedroom house full of the ususal things). They collected her things at the beginning of December and she has them back already.

Just wondering if you have considered trying another state before going back to UK. There are a lot of nice places in Australia.

Best of luck whatever you decide
Marie

Give Rob a call at Wridgways, you'll have to look the number up. They charged us just over $5000 to send a whole house load of stuff back to the UK, and were absolutely excellent!

I thought you'd gone to Queensland or Perth or somewhere Steve - did you go back to the UK in the end :what?:

No, Steve and co are happily settled in Perth and building a house there. Think they shipped their stuff round the world several times

Too right! We clocked up a few airmiles and managed to fly to Perth in those posh seats up front!

Perth is absolutely wonderful! We all love it and it feels like home. Julia is right, we are having a house built, work is great, I've got a job DJ-ing on the radio, the kids have joined clubs and have loads of friends and Eve can't believe that there are so many shops.

I do miss you all.....just not very much! :D

Steve.
