Thought this was represented in the suburbs faq :what?: but could be wrong... if not, when we get some info on here we'll move it over.
I have friends over that way, very pleasant and close to Tea Tree Plaza shopping mall.

Golden Grove is very nice. Its quite high up and close to the Hills. I go to a playgroup there at the Salvation Army Hall At Wynn Vale Drive on a Monday morning 10 - 11.30am. There is quite a large UK contingent in the area, most of the girls who go to playgroup are either English, Scottish or Irish though there are a few Aussies in there as well. The Schools are very good. There are a couple of private schools that are well recommended and Golden Grove High School also has a good rep. As far as I know Golden Grove primary is a very nice school as well, we looked there when we first arrived.
I take Hayley to a Occasional Care one day a week at Keithcott Farm School, which funnily enough is on Keithcott Farm Drive. I can leave her there for 3 hours for $5 which is a bargain, there is also a Kindergarten attached to the occasional care and the kids are encouraged to join in with the bigger kids, its a well needed break for me and a nice social aspect for Hayley, they also do playgroup there on a friday morning which we are starting in February. If anyone wants more info on these, just PM me for the phone numbers.
Golden Grove has a couple of good shopping centres, The Village which is at the top of Golden Way, has absolutely everything you could look for in a small centre. Foodland and Woolies, Baby Target, Big W, Hairdressers, Opticians, Tandys, Chemist, Bakers, a fantastic fruit and veg shop, Barbers, ladies clothes shops, shoe shops and banks, real estate agents, and the surrounds outside have take aways, bottle shops and petrol station. Also at Golden Grove, opposite the centre, there is a swim school and an recreational Arts Centre. As you may be able to tell, I do most of my shopping there!!!
The other Centre on Golden Grove Road is slightly smaller, there is a pub there but its good enough if you need anything quick.
I really like Golden Grove, its spaced out and full of trees and parks, the houses seem to be mostly new and general costs between $260,000 for a 3 bed to $500,000 for a really, really nice place.
The only down side I would say is its quite far out in relation to the City and I guess it would be a 30 minute drive, but Tea Tree Plaza is only a 10 minute drive from there and you could catch the O-Bhann which takes 15 minutes and runs every 5 minutes in the working week. For those who don't know - the O-Bhann is a bus that runs on rails like a tram. I seem to remember there is a park and ride at Golden Grove as well. But you are only 15 minutes from the hills and some really nice wineries up there, Gorge Wildlife park is also in Cudlee Creek and is a really lovely little park.
I would recommend it and I seem to remember you saying you've got rellies up this way or your husbands been here before when we emailed each other? If thats the case then you'll be close to someone you know which makes life easier.
Plus I'm here !!!!!!!!!!

Jo
Have you got any more info on the occasional Care at Keithcott Farm School. We're not even there yet and looking at ways of offloading the kids! Just thought it might be something which would help when we are driving round suburbs. What age groups do they cater for for example?
Many thanks
Jayne

Elaine - I couldnt find any info on Golden Grove on the FAQ's if there is then please let me know where!!
Jo - Yes you are right we do have relatives in Modbury, (you got very good memory) I cant remember what happened yesterday most of the time!!! I been looking at areas and houses etc in that area and was getting a little worried but then I found Golden Grove, from what i can see on the web, it looks fantastic, love the look of the houses and they seem very reasonabley priced and looked at the primary and senior schools and they look good to!!
Someone else said to me the only problem with GG is that none of the houses have big gardens and they all on top of each other??!?! Everyone likes different things obviously but what are your views on that one?? To be honest we not looking for a huge garden anyway as we both hate gardening, so something reasonable is good for us!!
How far is GG from the Seaside??
Thanks for your help everyone seems like it is my sort of place, we are coming over in May/June for a month so will be taking a closer look then!!

Any other views on Golden Grove??
MJHuk36 - January 25, 2006 04:12 PM (GMT)
Hi
The desciption Jo gave of Golden Grove is very accuarate. Can picture it after validating our visas last October. Very clean and good for ameneties.
We have got relatives in Modbury Heights, Wynn Vale, Greenwith and Golden Grove. All the suburbs are close to each other and we plan to be around that area. We looked at Wynn Vale Primary and liked their laid back approach. Would like to view a few more schools before we made a final decision though.
Jo, do you know anything about Keithcott Primary and its reputation?
Mandy :bouncy:

All I hear is good things about the area, which is great, cant wait to get out there and take a look for myself!!
Welcome any other comments, good or bad!!
Rippo - January 25, 2006 11:38 PM (GMT)
Hi Toon,
Welcome. We have lived in Golden Grove since September and love it.
What Jo said about the amenitites is very true.
We feel that it has everything that we need without the need to go in to the city.
We found our dream house after being in Australia for 3 days. It is a large plot (there are some about if you look) backing on to Cobbler Creek - a beautiful reserve full of galahs (parrots) and Cockatoos.
The location is great - 25 minute drive to Semaphore beach, 15 minutes to st Kilda adventure playground, 10 minutes from the Adelaide Hills, where there are some great wineries and touristy things to see and do.
We are 25 minutes (max) from the city centre - though have only been there once, as shopping is great here. The GG village has 2 supermarkets, clothes shops, etc... pretty much what Jo said earlier.
10 minutes away is Tea Tree Plaza - which is probably Adelaide's 2nd largest shopping centre after Marion. (south) It has every thing you would need there.
The local primary school is excellent and there is a choice of 4 private senior schools in the area, as well as Golden Grove High - which at the moment doesn't have a very good reputation due to an earlier drugs problem which has now been resolved - I believe.
There are loads of takeaways and many good resturants in the local area. There is also a great outdoor swimming centre, Water World at Modbury (10 minutes away) which has 3 out door pools for all ages - in fact we are off there in 30 minutes so must end this post and get ready
PM me if u like if you have any further questions.
Ann

I would pretty much agree with everything thats been said about Golden Grove so far, but what I will add is that you make sure you look at Wynn Vale too as the views down to Port Adelaide trom the hillside properties are stunning. The houses are nice too and will not be silly prices, only regret is that we didn't look there before we bought, having said that we love Modbury Heights anyway so can't complain.
Good luck.

Everyone seems to have forgotten all the great walking trails around Modbury Heights,Wynn Vale and Golden Grove. Also everywhere in WV and GG is so green even at this time of the year. Tea Tree Gully Council are one of the best aswell.

Keithcot has a good reputation, it is situated next to Kings Baptist (private school) and I've heard some facilities are shared with them. Lisa who works at the Occasional care has both her kids at Keithcot school and really likes it, she's been trying to get me to move my girls to there. Her kids went to the school mine are at. From what I can see, the school has plenty of grounds, theres no Graffitti and looks new and well kept.
I would agree with the earlier sentiment about looking round Wynn Vale, it is also really nice, slighty older suburb compared to GG. Lots of houses are new in Golden Grove so you get smaller lots. Greenwith is much worse which is a bit further up. You could walk across the roofs from one house to the next up there.
Hope this all helps, heres the web address as well

Brilliant information from Ann and Gizmo and once again Jo, I will take a look at the other areas when we come for rekkie trip June time this year, I like everything I have heard so far, and whilst we dont want to be "Roof Hopping" we are not that bothered about having a HUGE garden as neither of us are really into gardening, but would like reasonable size plot having 2 young kids!!
Once again thanks all for your help!!
