fastrhino - January 24, 2006 06:58 AM (GMT)
I know i have read a thread similar to this before but can't find it.

as anyone done this, whats involved.

i am aware i will pay import duty.

i am also aware it as to meet australian safety standards.

as my bike is fairly new it will be built yo strict eec emissions controls so appartf rom tha what could my bike fail to comply with?

Hi Mick
I'm suffering deja vu - sure I answered this one yesterday or maybe the day before :loopy:

Anyway... there's a whole FAQ forum devoted to Cars and Motoring with lots of info and links about bringing a vehicle over :cool shake:

Hi Mick,

I'm also taking my bike but its 16yrs old (lots done to it though and I've had it for the last 10 years).

The website you need to look at is www.dotars.gov.au/rvcs

Hope this helps.

Cheers Rob

In that case, let's make sure we get all the info in this thread, then we can add it to FAQ ready for the next person. Must admit it's not an FAQ area that I know too well, thought the links would already be there, but if not then let's correct that!

this is the info i got from dotars by e-mail

To import a vehicle into Australia, you must have owned the vehicle and had it registered in your name for twelve months or more, have lived in the country it was registered in for the twelve months, and have evidence of this. Also, you can only bring in one personal import vehicle per twelve months, and you have to be an Australian resident, or permanent visa holder, or have a temp 457 or equivalent.

This is of course unless the vehicle was manufactured prior to 1988. If this is the case vehicles built in 1988 or earlier can be brought in without restriction, all you need is an import approval, which includes submitting the application form along with certified ID and a receipt.

The only other way is to go through a RAWS workshop, to see if your vehicle would be eligible to come in through RAWS, follow this link:

http://raws.dotars.gov.au/rawswebpublic/RAWPubSearch.asp

For more information regarding importing vehicles into Australia, please see the following link:

And to download the import application form please go here:
