Title: Registering as a teacher
Description: transcripts of qualifications

pommies downunder - January 30, 2006 03:02 AM (GMT)
I have started looking into registering to teach here and have been told by the TRB that I will need to provide transcripts of my qualifications. As far as I'm aware I can't get hold of these as they aren't issued in the UK.

Are there any registered teachers out there who can tell me if I can just submit my certificates or if I need to start contacting the unis? The lady at the TRB was adamant that all other UK teachers have and submit transcripts.

Also, can anyone confirm the fee payable for registration. The lady at the TRB said $230 for 3 years but on their website it appears that it is $275 for 3 years.

Thanks

Provide them with a copy of your course handbook and certificate(s). It would be worth contacting the uni you were at as you're probably not the only one who will have asked them for this kind of info.

Hi - I managed to get transcripts for both my teaching degrees. If you phone up the university they will know what you are talking about. One charged a small fee and the other was free. I think they get asked for them quite a lot although I'd never heard of it before!!

I don't remember paying anything - but I do have a head like a sieve!

yea fraid so

just ring your uni - they do do them in the uk - and it won't cost you anything

you have to show them to about four different agencies - skills assessment NOOSR, skills assess EDu dep. SA, TRB, it is endless - takes about 6 months to get 'authority to teach' letter which is vital - and you know they do like their red tape!!

god luck

Thanks. I'll get in touch with uni and start the process.

I was told it would take approx 2 months to get 'the letter' - I thought that sounded too good to be true! I assume that you can't teach until the letter is granted?

I'm not even sure I want to teach...

Hi I got my TRB certificate last week. I am still in the UK.

I phoned up the two uni's I attended and both were able to go back and look at my records to provide confirmation of my degree.

One cost £10 and the other £15.

This lady was extremely helpful at the TRB.

leelak@trb.sa.edu.au

The cost was $275 plus extra for Oz police checks.

Leela also sent me a copy of what was required in the reference. If you pm me your email address I will send you a copy.

Hope this helps

Andrea
