This is maybe a daft question but haven't thought about it before.......can anyone tell me how much stamp duty is on houses in SA - is it a percentage of the property value or a fixed amount in bands (like council tax etc....)?

Hope this helps others - if you're first time buyers you'll get concessions on this depending on the value of the house. Unfortunately, the criteria is first time buyers ANYWHERE in the world so won't be of much use to some.
