Title: Port Adelaide
Description: Nice areas, bad areas?

Angela & Ian - February 7, 2006 11:57 AM (GMT)
Can anyone tell me if there are any nice areas of port adelaide (or more importantly, any bad ones).

Looking at real estate and initially thinking of buying in North Adelaide but just wondered what the areas of port adelaide are like.

I have looked on the FAQ page about suburbs but the only comments on port adelaide are from 2004 and I know they are doing some kind of redevelopment there now.

Any feedback greatly appreciated,

Angela x

I was up there recently - it's fairly rough but could become good with a bit of vision and effort. Think Docklands 30 years ago followed by Docklands 15 years ago.

What I noticed more than anything else was the Police Station - larger than any other I've seen over here. Must say something.

G'day Angela,

The Port Adelaide redevelopment is a long term one it's expected to take place over the next decade. This link provides some more information

http://www.lmc.sa.gov.au/lmc/projects/port...front/index.cfm

The Port area is very commercial and industrial at this point in time however there are nicer residential areas within a close proximity, a couple that come to mind are North Haven and West Lakes.

Good luck with your research.

Thanks guys,

I must admit from looking at the types of houses there it did look pretty run down. I think I'll stick to searching the north. I like hope valley and modbury. I would love to live in the South but very pricey!!!

Anyway, we'll hopefully be over in May so can check some places out properly.

Thanks for your help,

Angela x

Hi Angela,
yes there is a huge development scheme at the Port , its a great place for anyone with money to invest. As for living there .. , I could if it was just me and Ian(some of the warehouse type propertys on the actual dockside are really nice ..NOT SURE that I would want to bring my kids up there though

Dont forget ther are suburbs West and East of the city too !
