Hi
Not sure whether this is classed as chit chat but i will post it here anyway.
Just wondering do people in SA take out insurance against bush fires, or isn't there an insurance which exsists for this? If there is an insurance is it very expensive?

We originally wanted to live in the hills when we first came, but were put off by someone Bill works with. They told him that house insurance up there is horrendously high due to the bush fire risk. I honestly dont know if this is fact or just heresay, but Andy lives up and there and i am sure he could tell you.

Your insurance costs , will depend on what ,security measures you put in place, i,e ROOF SPRINKLERS, UNDER GROWTH CLEARANCE, if you are prepared to show the insureres ,that you mean business. your rates will be lower than those who dont, want to comply................mm

You haven't heard of the Ash Wednesday fires then where most of the Adelaide Hills was alight and destroyed. There's an advert on the TV here in Adelaide for SGIC insurance and its a grim reminder of the fires they had that terrible year.
I've heard that if you live in the hills, then men have to be trained in the fire service to help out in a crisis.
I would love to live in the hills but there is always this risk every summer.

Is that to say that every adult male in the adelaide hills is to complete a fire training course, or is it a voluntary scheme.

Anyone can join the CFS - but I think the only thing that's recommended if you live up there - as anyone should have - is a fire disaster plan.

If you live in a bushfire risk area, it is compulsory to drink alot, just in case the water runs out!!!!!!!
