Title: Shipping Quotes
Elaine M - June 10, 2004 10:48 PM (GMT)
Hi all,
3 quotes in and one still to come.
I rang Crown Pickfords, John Mason and PSS and asked for a quote based on 8 tea chest sized boxes (I've been gathering together the stuff I'm taking and this is my best estimate for the total volume), to be shipped out ideally on 28 June. House sale completes on 30 June all being well, have already booked a day off on 28th.
John Mason: £420 and can do 29th June but not 28th.
Crown: £435 for up to 65cuft - online quote, no date given but said on phone they didn't think they could do 28th.
PSS: £532 for 36cuft (said that's what my estimate equates to)
Pickfords: the only company that want to come out and see what I'm taking to give me a quote - booked for next Tuesday afternoon.
All quotes based on door to door, packing done by them (I've put things in boxes but not sealed them or packed properly)
Going with John Mason means I need to get out of a meeting to get the day off - can be done but I'd prefer not to if I can help it. (my colleague did say I'm remarkably focused on my work considering I've got such a big life change on the horizon - told him I've been working on this for over three years so am used to it now! :o )
Am inclined to cancel Pickfords appt and go with Crown if I can get a suitable date.... on the other hands it might be useful to get Pickfords in after all, just to check my estimate is about right.
Any thoughts?

Thanks mm,
I'll check with Excess baggage - forgot about them in my panic to get it sorted before the end of June!
Shipping time quoted is around 8-12 weeks (groupage), just realised it will most likely arrive before I do (Setting off early Sept but if the plan works it'll take me acouple of weeks to get there!). Quote is for door to door, address isn't a problem as my sister said she can keep stuff for me, but will there be a problem if I'm not there personally on arrival?
Does someone need to go to Customs in Adelaide to clear the shipment or does door to door mean literally it will just arrive at my sister's?
Laura, you're right I'm not taking much, my daughters are getting almost all of my furniture, just books, records, ornaments, other personal bits and pieces, bedding and clothes. I'm really looking forward to going out and buying everything new when I do get my own place - can't wait to go on a huge shopping spree!

elaine who ever ,your shipper appoints as your agent here in oz, will do your clearing . If you use excess it will most likely be us, and door to door means exactly that>>>>>>>>>>>>>mm

Elaine , I'm looking forward to doing a big shopping trip too, half of me wants to leave everything but my dad says i'll need it there, and dads are always right!!!!! and part of me wants to take alot, but it seems silly paying all that money to take old stuff when you can use the money to buy new stuff!

Hey up you!
Dont you be booking Crown(who I gave details for) for the 28 th June, cos thats the day they are hopefully coming to do ours! We also complete on 30th of June!
Dont want any double bookings to confuse things!!!!
I will be seeing you on the 19th June so watch out missus!!!!! ( Ha, Ha Ha!)
See you soon
Brooky. :thumbs up:
Elaine M - June 12, 2004 09:13 PM (GMT)
Ay up Brooky!
I'll settle for 29th if necessary but I reckon they could probably come here, pack my stuff and cart it off before or after yours without you even noticing!
John Mason's rep reckoned they could pack it in an hour, no prob. Breakables are/will all be wrapped in tissue paper and bubble wrap so it's mainly getting things into boxes as tidily as possible.
Need to ring Crown Monday, see what date they can do. Waiting for an online quote from Excess baggage as per mm's suggestion.
Will pm you about another coincidence happened today, OT so don't want to confuse anyone.
Got the contract for the house sale in the post this morning - very scary and real now, I'm beginning to realise why people at work have been saying I'm really brave to be emigrating.... :sign68:
Keep telling myself, don't think too much Elaine just do it, sign on that dotted line and off you go!
See you all next week, am really looking forward to it.
Elaine M :)
