Title: Is everything going too well
Description: Reccie Trip

Jon n Dot - March 1, 2006 10:00 AM (GMT)
Hi all

We arrived in Adelaide for our reccie trip 21st Jan, it was absolutely roasting, 46c on the Sat. :happy45: We were only in Adelaide for 5 days or I suppose you could say 3 full days, we then flew onto Perth to stay with family.

However, we stayed in the Rendevous Allegra in the city centre and I would really recomend this hotel, the rooms were of a good size, clean, breakfasts, were buffet style help your self, and really sorted you for the day.
We had hired a car and it was well worth the money, if you want to see anything of the real Adelaide and its surrounding area's its the only way really especially if your time is short..

In the short time we we were in Adelaide I had 3 interviews, a full day out with a fellow Ad Britter (Louiseb) who very kindly showed us as much of the area as was possible to see in a day, followed by a very nice BBQ, where we met some other Ad Britters and a fine time was had.

It was our very first trip to Adelaide having only been to Perth previously. In the short time we were there we were both very impressed, we actually thought it was similar to Perth but on a much smaller scale which we thought was good, as Perth is such a huge place to get any where takes an age, where as in Adelaide things are very much closer and easier to get too, plus from a traffic point of view Adelaide was much quieter.

Within 3 days of arriving in Perth I had a job offer as a result of one of the interviews in Adelaide and they were pushing for start dates :sign68:

To cut a long story short I received the formal written job offer when I arrived back home in the UK a couple of weeks later. I agred a start date in Oz, I then handed my notice in at work.

We then put the house up for sale, we had an asking price offer within a week to people who have already completed on thier home so they are wanting to move very very quickly (within 3 weeks of offer date) so that is looking very promising too.

I fly out on my own :crying: on the 21st March and start my job on the 27th. My wife will stay behind to finalise things and get the dogs visa sorted etc

So much has happened in not much more than 1 month, it was never planned to be like that, but the fact I have been able to get a job prior to moving out, is such a big worry removed. We just couldn't afford to refuse it.

Now its just the goodbyes, it was easy to say 18 months ago when you have just started the process, oh it wont be a problem to leave your loved ones, but now it is oh so real :sigh: I'm not regretting what we are doing, it dosn't make it any easier though.

The Adelaide part of our trip was always more a fact finding / business trip, never planned as a holiday, and thats how it turned out, our time there was very full.
I had made contacts over the previous 12 months or so and had arranged for people to talk to me about employment, having previously sent my CV etc.

Its important to do your homework prior to any kind of reccie trip, make sure you have your CV / References with you, try and make contact with people who are in a similar type of work. People say its not what you know its who you know and I can vouch for that.

I Hope this posting has not bored you too much, it has gone on a little.

John

Congrats John, I am just waiting for my visa and am now starting the process of trying to find work before I go.
My current employer has an office in OZ and that is my starting point - waiting for a reply to an email on possible transfer.
Will start trawling online job sites as well. Just hoping our house sells quickly once on the market. :sign03:

Wishing you continued good luck :bouncy:

Good on ya John! Sounds like one of those things that's just meant to be. My hubby had a job to come out to too and it did take such alot of uncertainty out of the whole thing. So Good Luck, hope you enjoy your adventure.
