What's everyones take on the properties around Aldinga beach..?? We went down to have a look as you could get a pretty cheap new house down there..
Well it was like a big building site with dozens and dozens of part built house there....and loads of nearly new houses forsale...!!!!
Has anyone got any thoughts on this..???...As we are tempted to take a serious look at the property down there..

I quite liked it down there. Beach is very nice. Considered it but then found a block on Seaford Rise which is a little closer to the city.

Hi Corker
We liked the area around Aldinga beach, and Hallet cove. Liked the look of the nearby properties aswell, but at the time didn't look into the cost of them. will be going to view again on our forthcoming validation and reccie trip so will let you know. Not sure how far a drive out of the city it is. :what?:

I was told recently by 'someone' in the know, that Aldinga is going to be a massive boom area in the next few years. There is supposed to be a lot of money going into infrastructure down there (shops etc) and that the blocks are bigger, close to the sea and good value for money right now. I am considering building down that way myself. Only drawback is that it's a long way out from the city and work, but it's not a bad area at all. Worth looking at.
BTW CORKERS I didn't see you at the airport on the 12th Feb - my mum and sister were first off the plane cos Mum was in a wheelchair and they were out of immi and customs in 15 minutes!! Hope you're liking Adelaide!

We liked the look of Aldinga when we came on our recci trip last year - perhaps we could do an Adbrits takeover bid and set up our own little street!! :D
It certainly will be one of the first places we check in detail when we arrive. But it does depend on how long it takes to get to the city.
:help: Anyone out there already - can you give us a clue please??

WHY???
FWIW, any Ozzies I know SAY wouldnt touch it with a bargpole  Its in the middle of nowhere, about an hour from the city ( would you really want to have all that driving time) Theres tumbleweed rolling across the road, The undesirables are moving further south etc..etc.. Its redneck central...
Not my words.. so no spitting the dummy!
BUT.. I do like the beach itself...to visit ;)

We've been told by more than one estate agent that the undesirables are indeed moving further south - out of places like Hackham, Christie Downs etc. (the places we all try to avoid) down to places like Aldinga because its cheaper.
My cousin - an Australian who has lived in Adelaide his whole life and works in the building trade, warned us against it.
Apart from that, there's nothing there.

Love the beach down there, and did think about looking at places down there, but I think Hannah would kill us if we moved her that far out!

If you are looking for a metropolitan suburb then dont go there, if you are looking for a decent sized country town ( last count the population was with a great beach Aldinga will be fine.
The average house price in 2005 for the areas discussed
Aldinga $215,000
Christies Beach $205,000.
Christie Downs $ 175,000
Hackham $180,000
Hackham West $175,000
:P
Aldinga has big plans, major redevelopment of the shopping area, a larger medical centre and another school. There are 1000 new houses planned for the next three years down there so it will be a building site for a while, the blocks on the Sunday Estate average around 500 sqm while in the old part of town you can still get 800 + sq m blocks either with or without houses and all at reasonable prices.
There are still a lot of shack style houses and some of the streets appearances in the old parts arent the best however it is a really friendly place with some great people, make your own judgement.

Personally I don't see anything wrong with Aldinga Beach. With regard to the undesirables, the majority wouldn't be able to get a mortgage so I wouldn't worry too much about that. Its when the owners rent their houses out to undesirables it becomes a problem and that can happen anywhere.
As for the time away from the city - it depends on whether you are going to be working in the city doesn't it. If you are, then allow yourself one hour each trip to get there as its stop start all the way from the southern expressway - its doing my head in and I'm looking for a job further down south. If you're not working in the city then you don't have to worry about how far away from it you are.
Hope this helps.

we`ve purchased a block on the sunday estate and have just signed final plans.
we looked at a few developments down there one of which being seacrest and the other bayswood.
seacrest for me did`nt feel right and a lot of the homes looked the same(devine homes i think)and it looked a bit untidy for a new estate this i think is down to no time limits on landscaping.
Bayswood is further back from the beach and not a lot different in price so we opted for the sunday development.
as for undesirables given the choice of aldinga beach, huntfield heights  hackham west, christie downs or noarlunga downs i`ll take my chances ;)

My brother ( "AldingabeachSA") lived in Aldinga beach for two years and loved it. He still has a house there but is on temp asignment inland. As has been said before, if you don't like the commute it may not be for you but i believe the journey is far more enjoyable than London.

Nice pub, with folk club once a month on a Sunday arvo, and folk festival weekend each year in October
