hi kev and deb, we are going sept 3rd, but have booked travel insurance which will cover the flights from now, then luggage, medical cover etc, then we are covered for 17 days when we arrive, cos we cant have medicare for the 1st 10 days, this cost us £99. but was from a local broker, but when you book your flights they can sort out the insurance for you!!!

We found it quite difficult to find suitable insurance - make sure you get the correct advice for a one way trip and not a reutrn, holiday-type trip.

I tried to get my jewellery valued as it could only be covered with a valuation, but found none of my local jewellers did it - one could have done it 3 months later, when we were well and truly over here. In the end I took it all in my hand luggage uninsured. Might be worth getting things valued early on!

We too had difficulty in getting travel insurance for one way flights, in the end we got the leaflet through the post office then we had to phone them ourselves once we got home cost £110 for the 3 of us. Well worth it though - just imagine if the kids fell sick and couldn't fly ???

Good Luck with it all....

Hi

I've had a few travel ins quotes, but the problem is:

the cover is for £2,000 per person and only up to £250 per individual item.

We are planning to take, amongst other things, a notebook pc (£1, 399) and a tenor saxophone (£1, 300). We need to take them, as they are Alex' and he will be starting school within a week of us arriving in Adelaide!

The pc will fit in our hand luggage for the plane, but the saxophone will have to go with the cases.

Has anyone managed to find ins with a higher compensation level?

Thanks

Jules :)

Lee I've just checked out this site, did you use them to cover your flights?

The annual cover is much cheaper than the cover we have at the moment from ASDA, which is due for renewal this month.

Hi Lisa,
No we haven't sorted travel insurance out yet, but i shall be using Insure and Go when the time comes as we were directed to them by a couple of friends that travel a lot,and have used them in the past.

Someone on this thread used insureandgo to cover them oneway. Perhaps you need to ring them for a quote?

I found this one advertised Kev - specifically for one way travel 'down under'. Haven't checked them out yet though.

We had a normal annual holiday insurence cover for holiday insurence with WorldWide Insurance, when I called them regarding the emigration I was told that I would be automaticaly covered for 17 days after we arrive in Adelaide. As regards the 3 night stopover in Singapore we had to pay a £10 premium to enable them to repatriate us to our destination rather than the country of origin.

If you have an annual cover it may be worth while asking them if there is anything that they can come up with.

Regards

Graham
