Please can you give us some up to date info regarding the area of Modbury and surrounding suburbs. We have never been to Adelaide but from what we had read on here we had set our minds around the Happy Valley areas. Now we realise that it might be a bit too much to the south regarding my husbands work, as most of the work for him seems to be in the north.
I don't know whether this is in the correct forum but looking on the past posts in the suburbs section, none of them are up to date. All info would be appreciated (whether good or bad), we are not only looking at type of houses and location to hubbys work but about kindergardens and primary schools as we have 3 kids under 5.
Thanks Leanne

Hi Leanne

Can't be too much help with the kindergarden info as our children are both teenagers, and we are happy with the school they attend. We live in Modbury Heights (Modbury-on-the-Hill in English) and we are pleased with our choice of area. It all depends what you like, Happy Valley has a lot more open spaces and you will probably get more land with the house for your money, but as you say , does your husband want an hours drive to work and back every day.
Modbury is a very convenient area for shops, transport (O'Barn), cinemas etc and is very clean without any big industrial areas. It is also very green compared to other areas Adelaide and if you are looking for a new/modern property then Golden Grove And Greenwith are just up the road but will cost you a few more dollars.
It all depends on your taste, some peole I know don't like it and it is at least 1/2 an hour from the closest beach and a long way from the nice beaches down south.
When you arrive take two weeks to travel around Adelaide (very stressfull with kids!) and go with your gut feeling.
Good luck.

If you look in the FAQ under suburbs and check Modbury North, Golden Grove and Gulfview Heights, I think there are some recent posts there.

I live in Modbury North, its very nice. We paid $295,000 for a 5 bed, 2 bath, 2 lounge rooms and a study house, its on just under a 1,000sq m block. I'm never sure if its a 1,000 sq m or 1,000 m sq. but you get the picture :)

The schools are pretty good here. There is a kindy in nearly every suburb, Modbury North is called Modbury North Kindergarten funnily enough. Lots of kindys are attached to the schools, i can't remember the name of the one in Modbury Heights. In a 5 minute drive from my house there is Modbury West Schools, Para Vista School, Para Hills East School, Keithcott Farm Primary. Its not difficult to find schools. Check on te department of Education website, the lisitings for all the school, preschool and kindys are there. www.decs.sa.gov.au

The area itself is good, its an established area, Modbury & Modbury North was a big british settlement area in the 1970's. Tea Tree Plaza is a great shopping centre, like the one at Marion only smaller, it has a cinema there also. There are lots of smaller shopping centres locally, I go to 3 in my immediate area, Ingle Farm, Modbury North and Golden Grove . There is a good swimming pool at Elizabeth and there is a seasonal water park (water world) at Ridgehaven. 3 different size pools and a water slide. We are roughly 15 minutes into the hills and it takes us 25 minutes to drive to Semaphore to the beach. Glenelg can take 30 -45 minutes depending on traffic. The City is 20 - 30 mins drive straight down North East Road again depending on time of day and traffic. I have driven to the City in 15 minutes when all the traffic lights are green. I would suggest you look on www.professionals.com.au/modbury for an indication of house prices and whats available. If you want something newer, I would suggest Golden Grove, Wynn Vale, Greenwith, Gulfview Heights, Banksia Park & Fairview Park as they have newer houses. For an older selection with larger lots try, Modbury, Modbury North, Modbury Heights, Para Hills, Valley View, Ingle Farm, Ridgehaven, Redwood Park (is lovely) Surrey Downs, Tea Tree Gully, Para Vista. You can get houses in all of these suburbs ranging from $245,000 to $800,000 plus. Athelstone, Paradise, Rostrevor, Highbury, Campbelltown, Magill are all close by but the same sort of property is more expensive in these suburbs. i would say Elizabeth and Salisbury are too far north for your travelling. People say these areas are undesirable but there are very nice houses that way if your budget is tight. Its all down to what you are looking for in a community. The shopping centre in Elizabeth is outstanding. Mr Mover would be your expert on those suburbs.

There are 2 swiming schools, Golden Grove and Clovercrest at Modbury. There is a par 3 Golf Course at Valley View, a nice playground at St Kilda approx 15 minutes drive to the north. Next to Water world is a soccer school. Most recreational centres do yoga, netball, basketball etc. There are lots of playgroups and toddler groups in the area. In fact I run a toddler group in Modbury West School on Tuesday morning 9am - 11am if anyones interested. There is Kindergym for up to 5 years old at Banksia Park.

I appear to have rambled on a bit, but as I said I do like it here.
