Title: Fridges & Freezers
jules - June 24, 2004 10:27 PM (GMT)
Hi
I have just seen a thread on BE which states that fridges and freezers should not be shipped to Oz anymore!
Here's the link:
http://www.deh.gov.au/atmosphere/ozone/lic...re-charged.htmlHas anyone recently had experience of this?
Thank you
Jules

Wel we brought ours, Nov last year.
I wonder if there might be a problem if we came to dispose of one here, if it didn't meet regs? Dunno!

Thats interesting jules, what a bummer.

I'll Rodders to take it down the market :D
Cheers for the link

Thinking again on this one - we've had repairs done to both a fridge and a dishwasher now since arriving here, and in general I think you'll find the models here are different from uk and it may be difficult/impossible to get spare parts should you need them. Perhaps this may sway you in your decision whether to take or not! Of course, if you get rid of it there you'll deffo have to replace it here, if you bring it with you then it might work fine for years before you have to shell out for a new one.

Do people tend to have those huge American style fridges out there Elaine?

Yes huge fridges are really common - need somewhere to keep the beer!

unless your fridge is pretty new before coming i wouldnt bother and buy when you get here. If you are shipping stuff over you will have quite a wait before it arrives and therefore will need one in the interim period anyway, which means buying one here!!
We now have one fridge freezer plus a small brand new fridge we had to purchase whilst waiting for our stuff to arrive from NZ. The only reason i bought ours was because it was less than a year old and is a top range Fisher and Pykel!!!

PP, I guess if you bought yours in NZ there's a better chance for getting spares here if ever required.

i would hope so Elaine...i often see our same model on sale here, so i guess i need not worry. LG, Fisher and Pykel, Simpson, Westinghouse and Whirlpool seem to be the most common brands i come across.

Judging by the pool of water that has appeared by my fridge freezer and the fact that Xara snapped the little door inside yesterday, plus the link that Jules had put up I think mine is destined to stay in the UK!

They guy who came out to my dishwasher yesterday (very nice, though not quite deserving of the word 'spunk') said my Hotpoint is very similar to LG's and may well be the same thing.

Juls sent for parts to hotpoint washer through the internet I think it took a week to get here and the repairer fixed it, i don`t think it cost a lot

Hi
I've just had PSS shippers here to give me a quote.
He said they haven't had a problem yet, but newer Fridges and freezers should be cfc free.
Have now phoned the manufacturers to ask where their label to this effect is - there's a large GREEN STICKER on the back which reads C - PENTANE! Apparently this means they will be ok!
So, mine are coming - it'll save having to go out and source even more stuff in those first few month.
Jules :D

OK Jules..but how are you going to keep your food fresh and cool till it arrives?
Snappy - June 25, 2004 10:29 AM (GMT)
How much was the quote afterwards Jules? Have you had many come round yet?
Sasha :)

Fridges and freezers can not be shipped if they contain CFC I think that is from next month, it should be easy to check if this is used in your appliance. The instruction book for our FF states that CFCs are not used.

PP, I'm afraid we are destined to stay with very helpful relies to start with!
Snappy, we've had quotes from Castles Britannia, Doree Bonner and now PSS. I've also had a phone quote from about 3 others and another 4 on the net - just like to do the research and cover all the options!!!

Hi Jules
Where do you live? My nephew is a packer for Britannia in Dorset. We didn't get them to move us though as they were WAY more expensive than our other quotes....
