Title: x-box
Description: take or replace

We have an X - box that the kids want to take over to Aus.
Our first question is; can we play local bought games on a UK X - box.

The other alternative is;

Somebody has offered to buy the console off us and we want to know if we should do this and bring the games over for when we replace it with a local bought console and would the UK games be compatible with an Aus bought machine?

Thanks in advance.

Ronnie.

Hi Ronnie
Ive had a look in the FAQ Section for you, and came across a thread re, play station 2, not sure if the same would apply to X box.

Hope this is of some help to you.

Okay, there is a lot to think about here.
DVD is definitely a different region, so a standard X-box won't play Aussie DVD's for a start. I'm not sure about the game region to be honest, but it's true there are regions and I’m not sure if Australia is in the ‘Asia’ region for games or not.

Consider getting your X-box chipped when you get here.
You might think that is a well dodgy suggestion, but it isn’t. Unlike the rest of the world, the Australian Government took both Microsoft and Sony to court for restrictive practices regarding their consoles and won! – Both manufacturers received a hefty fine, but more to the point, console chipping/modding is PERFECTLY LEGAL in Australia.

I bought a fully refurbished chipped machine, which can play games and DVD’s from any region and it has a large 160Gb hard drive installed for conveniently loading up errr... your games. It’s capable of much more than that, it will even store DVD’s, store and playback your music collection, emulate other consoles (not PS2), stream radio/TV over the internet and can still play on-line (via X-box Kai – an alternative to MS Online). Incredible machine!!!

Bearing in mind the cost of a new X-box these days, the mod isn't cheap - around A$220 (100 pounds) for chipping including adding a hard-drive to your own machine.
But to my mind, it's more than worth it ...this definitely isn't the place to whinge about the cost of new games and rave how Blockbuster is such a great store though ;) .

So what have you got to loose? - The professional modder will take over Microsofts guarrantee and even warranty their work.
There are several places in SA who will do the work, but check out this site for more info:- ConsoleFix.com

We have brought our playstation and the kids have used ozzie games with no problems. I would bring it you could always get it chipped if you have problems and im sure it would be the cheaper option

We brought a U.K X-Box and Play-Station 2 with us. We have bought games for both here (new and 2nd hand) All work fine :D

I'd sell it for cash and buy the 360 when you get here. Bit of cash but just convince yourself it will get damaged in transit so its better to get money for it while you can!

BRING IT!!!!!

And also pack it in your luggage when you travel!

We bought the kids playstation and games in our suitcases... invaluable!

The chances are you will have access to a television when you arrive long before anything else and it really helps when you are busy....keeps the little darlings quiet!!

Bring it, Ozzie games will work fine, both on the PAL system so no probs.
you just wont be able to play Oz region 4 DVD's on it unless its been chipped.
If you are going to chip it to play DVD's just make sure you get it done at a shop you can go back to.
Dodgey chipping can render it ulsess.
my advice would be dont bother chipping it, if you want to play oz dvds buy a DVD player
