OK, thickie newbie here. So what exactly is OAA that a lot of people are talking about (some of whom have had something or other cancelled by them).
Just curious, y'know, not wanting to be missing out on something.....

Hello we stayed at 2/4 Oak Avenue on our arrival. The unit was 3 bedrooms, clean, had all basic kitchen equip, Fridge/Freezer, 3 piece suite, table and chairs, telephone which we had connected(then took number with us when we moved on). It is in a quiet location, near to bus and train(although train doesn't run after 6 and at weekends) Marion shopping mall is within walking distance, so is Shennanigans Irish bar! just down Sturt Rd.
There is a little deli round the corner at the top of the street, for bread, milk, papers. The Police station is just across Sturt Road and the ambulance station is near by, so don't be put off by the regular sirens! Brighton beach is about 10 mins away by car, it's near to Flinders Uni and hospital. The neighbours were nice and helpful (especially........ ooohhh cant remember her name, although she is a bit nosey, she means well) and our very first friends lived across the way from us in 1/2 Oak Ave.
There is a previous thread a few pages back about Clovelly Park, and I know Annette (moderator)stayed around that area too.
All in all it wasnt bad for a start....no spiders....down side no aircon.....but dont think that will be too much of a worry in May.
If you need any other info.............
Otherwise Enjoy
Bev

There's a whole FAQ section on the government's low-cost On Arrival Accommodation for migrants if you want to find out more.... happy hunting ;)

We stayed in Clovelly Park, although not in the unit you've been given. Very conveniently located - nice quiet suburb. I think it's a very good place to use as a base... :D

We stayed in the exact same address and were pleasantly surprised at the place. Had 3 bedrooms with 2 toilets. Not luxury but had everything that you would need when first arriving. Only a few minutes drive from Marion mall which will provide you with everything you need, including Woolies or Coles supermarkets, banks, post office, Medicare centre and a centrelink office nearby.
The housing trust manager who looked after us was very nice but that was over 2 years ago so may have now changed.
We only stayed for about 3 weeks but it was a good base when first arriving.

Hey guys ,
Lets face it your not gonna need air con, you`ll need heating and you can soon get that get electric heaters, take it and look on the bright side , you can always look for rented acc, its a start isn`t it, its a place to get your head down and have a look around youv`e got 3 months, Its cheap and you won`t get anywhere any cheaper, take advantage of it. Didn`t I read electic was all in too

Thanks for all your comments. I have had a look on the map and it looks like a great base point to check out areas for a more permanent rental.
I have read that some people have not been granted OAA so I know we have been very lucky - we arranged it for beginning of the month - do you think that has any bearing on whether you get the accommodation?
So, packers have been - would recommend - John Mason. House completes tomorrow - have come over to my sister's so I can use a computer and not have to sit on a deckchair at home!
Homeless tomorrow and fly out via Hong Kong Friday! :yeehah:
