Hi Jayne

We have bought a block of land at Blakeview, don't know too much about the schools although there are several. We were thinking about Trinity College which is a private school (I think for all ages).
Unfortunately we won't be there until our home is built, probably January next year - we are in Canberra at the moment.
We liked the area and had heard nothing bad about it.

Hope this helps.

STEPH

No Problems. Glad we could help. How is Brooke? Sorry to hear about Andy though.

You already know my two go to Blakeview Primary and are very upset that they will be leaving. There aren't that many on here that live up this way, so I don't expect you getting many replies. There is sctottallison6 who have two kids at Balkeview primary and live in Craigmore. They are the people who viewed our house for us prior to coming out.

We have decided to move to Mawson Lakes. Got a house there. Move in 9th June.
There is a primary school and they are building a high school as well.

Speak to you soon.

These are nice areas - quite pleasant and neat, with a suburban feel to them. Don't know anything about the schools though.

Just a note Jayne (sorry, Pedantic old me) - North Adelaide is a very posh area just north of the CBD - with many multi-million dollar properties, whereas the areas you are mentioning are what would be desribed as "The Northern Suburbs".

Hi...As julia said we live on Craigmore and previously had a rental on Blakeview,We like in the area...Our place is up on the high side so we get the views of the coast(on a clear day!).We have a 5 and 8 yr old at the primary school on Blakeview.PrimarySchool is of a good standard as most aussie schools are.(Teach the kids the right things)There is a trinity Campus at blakeview too if thats what you are after..The actual area has pretty much all you would want within say a 15/20 minute drive etc..Local shops are 5 mins away and then a larger place down at Munno Para, heaps of open spaces,Reserves,Starplex. We have a 35 ish min drive to the beach,40 mins to Adelaide City etc.You are around 2 mins from The Adelaide hills which is beautiful. The Barossa is only 20 mins drive! Also if you are into Watersports, boating(as we are) etc its only around an hours drive to the River Murray at Mannum. We like the area for 100's of reasons(not just because its one of the first places we went to!!!!)Everything is closeby and as i said 2 minutes and you are in the countryside. As you know not too many people from here live around the northern suburbs but There are a few Florence lives on Craigmore,Geary moves in on the weekend(UP THE HAMMERS JAS) to his place on craigmore so you're not alone!!!!!A good few Adb's live around the north east,Modbury etc(my second favourite area)Give us a pm if you like and i will fill you in on any thing else.Good luck and i'm sure you'll like the area.

Catch ya

Hmmm, I've been reading these posts with interest.

Obviously some people out there want an honest opinion and having had my rose coloured glasses stolen along with everything else when I was robbed while living in the area I feel I can offer just that.

I note with interest some concern about having opinions so please feel free to follow the links I've attached to my opinions from sources like the Council, Government and Police Crime Statistics.

Playford, the area you are looking at is the poorest in Australia. There is a high rate of illiteracy, poverty, unemployment, criminal activity and assault. It is the most disadvantaged area in South Australia according to the Bureau of Statistics:

http://www.id.com.au/playford/commprofile/default.asp?id=120&pg=240&bhcp=1

The internal familly conflict and violence is as bad as the external neighbourly relationship; there just isn't one! I quote the following:

"In 2003, the City of Playford was defined as the most economically depressed urban area in Australia. 50% of the area is comprised of public housing compared with the state average of 9.8%; 39% of people in the area are unemployed compared with the state average of 9%; and one in three households in Playford have an income of less than $300 per a week. Playford’s crime and education statistics are also worrying. In 2003, there were 27 adult and 27 juvenile criminal detentions per 1000 residents compared to the state averages of 4 adult and 1 juvenile detention per 1000 people; while 40% more students in Playford than the state average, left education at 15 years or less."

How I wish someone had been open and honest with me before I spent my hard earned money buying a house in the area. Needless to say I eventually managed to sell the house at a loss and get out of the area. I wouldn't be so bold as to tell anyone where to live; this is simply what I have been through and where I wouldn't want to live.

Do your own research, get copies of the local papers every week and read about the area - Good and Bad. You'll soon get a picture in your own mind if it's right for you.

Hey..Yeah am at work in sunny the Northern territory!!!!Half way through this hitch.....

Tell'sItLikeItIz.
As for the figures thing...they are 3 years out of date to start. Also i think people were asking about Craigmore/Blakeview and not Playford.ok they are the council ward but i think you need to understand the size of playford to understand where i'm coming from (.344.90 km2 )2 people per hectare. All the suburbs/districts in Sa have poorer and low income/economically depressed areas..that doesn't mean to say that you shouldn't live in that council ward..Just a question of picking where you live.It seems to be fairly easy to spot a disadvantaged street etc ,there are a few tell tale signs i find.....but hey could just be me.I'm pretty certain the majority of the people in our area earn a touch over $300 bucks a week. Also there isn't much between the likes of Sturt and Onkaparinga council (which seem to be popular council wards)and playford if you look into the figures thing deeper. You obviously are not keen on the area for obvious reasons and i can understand this if you were robbed there.I think you'll find that most of this a good percentage of the figures you have quoted are fuelled largely by 3 or 4 areas(which i will not mention.most know where i mean).....within playford....i could go on but i,ve spent too much time on here already(which i vowed i wouldn't do anymore).....Hope this doesn't get deleeted as i think its pretty unoffensive.just didn't like the negative slant that was being put towards where i and other hard working,honest,litterate,employed,non-assaulting live.

Thanks

S

Hi Vicki and others,

Thanks for all your pm's. I hope you don't mind me replying here as it answers all of you in one go.

There are some lovely areas in all councils and electorates just like there are some that I have described. Statistics are just that, they don't lie. They are a snapshot of the place we live in on the day they are taken. If a new division or suburb is built or extended there is no more reason to believe it will folow suit than it will not. Sometimes the old saying of guilty by association may be invalid...who knows.

I want to thank everyone for their sincere gratitude and thanks. It is only my opinion and personal experience and that is what someone openly and honestly asked for. I wish I had known about the statistics and had the support of wonderful people like you when I was looking to buy.

As someone said to me this thread appears to be striking a chord with some people getting very defensive. There is no need for that. At the end of the day this forum is for people to help people and all opinions are from very real people who have something constructive to offer.

I wish you all well in finding your dream homes and areas to live in.

I think my opinion was constructive and I can asure you I am a very real person. It's just some people are always ready to critasise (sp) the North.

Enough said as it is getting very boring now.

Each to there own and freedom of speech.

Jayne I can say you will be ok in Craigmore if you decide to live there.

Julia. :D
