Title: What are the things you miss?

dglamoore - May 2, 2006 11:56 AM (GMT)
We have just signed up with our agent so have a way to go yet. Just wondering what are the things you cannot get in Adelaide that you miss?

If I know in advance I can make sure I stock up on anything I may not be able to get :D

jagsac - May 2, 2006 12:25 PM (GMT)

janandrob - May 2, 2006 12:50 PM (GMT)
T.V Quick (for it's sense of humour)
BBC 2, CH 4 and CH 5 (for interesting programmes)
The Daily Mail (to keep my interest for more than 10 minutes)
Going upstairs to bed (it's just something that I've always done :D )
A big bath (so I can fit all of me in at the same time!)
Sainsburys steam in the microwave ready meals (Quick Healthy treat)
Tescos (cos it stayed open 24 hours and I could do retail therapy when the kids were in bed :bouncy: )
Walking to school (I was always awake by the time I got back home)
Seeing 'Memory landmarks' where I grew up (ie place of first kiss,my old school, where I played as a kid)
Marks and Spencer school uniform (non-iron range)
Unsmoked bacon.......

That's mine for now :P

I'm going to be really sad now and say nothing really I've got used to the way things are here now and I find it funny when things so familiar in the past seem so strange now like I came across UK money and the 50 pence piece is tiny when you get used to 50 cent pieces taking up ALL the room in your purse

Although there was (dare I mention it :ph43r: ) a jar of marmite on top of the fridge in work today and I had to open it just to have a smell

Sasha :)

You shouldn't be using anything less than factor 30 here, to help protect against skin cancer.

Cadbury's chocolate

You get that here..................tastes a bit different at first but you get used to it :)

steve-n-jo - May 3, 2006 01:20 AM (GMT)
Quavers, Walkers Sensations, Tescos Onion Rings, proper Galaxy chocolate.
Jaffa Cakes that aren't $3.50 a box. Minstrels

History, old stuff, my mates, going places where people know how many sugars I have in my tea. Sitting in the Yacht club on a friday night, on the deck in the summer, with all our mates, jug of pimms on the table, looking out over Poole Harbour, watching the boats go by. light summer evenings

That will do for now - family goes without saying

Jo

You can get Cadbury's here but it doesn't taste the same - some people get used to it but personally (and I do keep trying it just to see) I still find it revolting.

THE MANN CLAN - May 3, 2006 02:09 AM (GMT)
It changes with the seasons...
but right now I miss Slimming World, Hi Fi bars and Quorn(super fast food!!!!)
Most of the time I miss 'village' life.
And while family and friends go without saying it's the little uns that were babies when we left who'll soon be starting school and who have no real idea who Auntie Gils is despite tonnes of photos asnd webcams :( :sigh:
However since my cup is ALWAYS half full...
Don't miss traffic, the pressures of target setting in English Schools or the frustration of always being the ones who had to travel to visit people because the road is always half the distance....
Gils ;)

Jo, you get Galaxy here, but for the life of me I can't think what it's called now ... the packaging is exactly the same though ... Enya pointed out to me that it's got the same name here as it does in France. Aaaargh! Will ask her when she gets back from school .....

i can quite honestly say that i dont miss anything ( apart from family). I have been back in adelaide for a week , (i went to england for a 2 week holiday) i now realise how lucky we were to have this oppertunity.....Live life to the full.... :happy45:

neilandcarolyn - May 3, 2006 03:11 AM (GMT)
Really don't miss too much but some of them would be:

Marks and Spencer's food department
Tescos (there is really no comparison between UK and Oz supermarkets!)
Fox's Rocky biscuits
Cadbury chocolate
Next clothes
Coronation Street and other familiar TV
Knowing exactly where to go for something without searching it out

However, I would also have to say that there is FAR more that I would miss about living here if we were to return to the UK ;)

If 'Galaxy' chocolate IS Dove, then I can say that my husband and I are addicted to Dove Nut Caramel chocolate. Very creamy.

You can get "English" Cadburys here if you know where to look. I don't like the chocolate here very much (including Cadburys) but every now and again my hubby brings me home an English bar from his secret supplier....

blackcountrygirl - May 3, 2006 09:44 AM (GMT)
Well my sister came out here for a holiday for 6 weeks and I`d not seen her in 16yrs, and yes thats the time we have been here, when we said goodbye at the airport I felt as though my inside was being torn away, I really have never felt like this before, even after a bitter divorce back in the UK. I realy can`t explain what I really felt, but I can tell you I`m looking forward to seeing her next year, we had a fab time, took her inter state, and really had a good time there too, can`t say much more as I am getting too emotional

Sheila

adelaidegirl - May 3, 2006 10:36 AM (GMT)
Lorluc, Eastenders is on Channel 103 (UK TV) and this week Dirty Den got killed, so we're a long way behind the UK episodes.

Sheila, sorry to hear you're feeling low after saying cheerio to your sister, but next year will be here before you know it ... keep that chin up girl!

blackcountrygirl - May 3, 2006 10:55 AM (GMT)
thanks adelaidegirle, i`m really looking forward to my sister Mavis`s visit again nexr year, it gives me a real lift, you don`t realize how much you miss people until you see them again and have to say GOODBYE

Low and behold, hubby has indeed come home tonight with a Dairy Milk and a Terry's Chocolate Orange - proper English ones. He gets them from an English sweet shop in the CBD. He says its in either Gawler Place or James Place (not sure which one. Enjoy!!!

Lucky you :D

There's a sweet shop at Semaphore not far from us - she sells Cadbury's Buttons for about $2.50 but I end up with about 5 as we all fight over them. Now you've got me thinking about Terry's Chocolate Orange - I'd forgot about those.

PS Eastenders is on 103 (UKTV) and 153 (UKTV+2) - if you are a soap addict like me there's Family Affairs, Coronation Street and then double episode of Eastenders all in one sitting and if you miss any of them just watch them on 153. Also they are repeated throughout the day. No Emmerdale though :(
