http://www.decs.sa.gov.au/docs/files/commu...chool_Zones.docThis might be extreemly helpful when combined with a street directory :D

That's a good link Jan,I think it should also be put in the FAQ section :D
We have no need for this as we're fixed in place now, however this is an excellent piece of info. Well done Jan.
To accompany it, an online street directory can be found at
http://www.whereis.com.au Whereis is countrywide. For Adelaide purposes the UBD book is best. A PC version covering all major cities can be obtained for $69.95 if preferred. See

Thanks Shaz, Thanks Fred
Just trying to see if there's a way in to my local 'highly recommended' High School despite not living in the zone :ph43r: ;) Only 4 years until my oldest moves on....not long really in the big scheme of things :sign68:
Glad to be of help.

We are just going through all this now as Laura moves up to High School next year. You can basically apply for any high school you want but they are only obliged to take you if you live in the right zone. They will however, accept children from outside the zone if there are places available. They only exeption to this as far as i know is if you apply for a school based on a specialised school programme - like Brighton has a music programme and I think Adelaide High has a language programme. And also there are 2 girls only schools - one in Gepps cross (can't think of the name! ) and Mitcham Girls on Unley road - which do not have zones.
You get given a form at the end of term 1 and have to return it by the start of June. It basically states that a place has been reserved for you at the local state school and you have to send the application back to your childs primary school saying if you accept this place or want to apply to another school.
The info with the form says that if you apply for a school outside your zone they will take the following into account, apparently in this order
Medical, Location. Curriculum, Other.
The final bit of the form states that "a placement is only guaranteed in the district school"
Bit long winded but I hope this helps! :)
Sally
Thanks Sally :D
It's a bit of a dilema for us at the moment. We have some pretty big decisions to make in the next couple of months. We were going to buy an investment property in the school zone but apparently this doesn't 'cut the mustard' :( You have to actually reside in the property...which I suppose is pretty fair enough :sigh:
Better get her into Volley Ball pretty quick
Anyone got any advice?
