Title: Child car seats

Brian & Tracy - May 7, 2006 08:25 AM (GMT)
Is it worth bringing over the car seats?

We are planning to stop for a few days in Singapore do we need jabs?? We will be fine but does anyone fancy taking our two year old for his if he needs them :crying:

NO jabs need for Singapore and car seats will be OK if they meet Australian standards. Some of the mums will be able to answer that one better than I, as it's been 4 years since I was in the child care industry and things change.

The Red Cross hire out child seats if you come without them and need one in a hurry temporarily. They also sell approved ones and will fit them for you, or check the ones you have are fitted correctly.

Most car hire companies can supply them too.

Wizzy is quite correct with regards to child restraints, have a look this link for further details on what is permitted in relation to child restraints

our practice nurse said, just be extra vigilant with hand washing, as you will be using a lot of public conveniences, where germs might be more easily spread. :)

We brought our car seat for matthew...but i bought a new one to bring with us..

His old seat was one of those heavy Britax seats...so i bought him a more lighter one...like a booster seat with a back...just wrapped it up and it went as luggage on the plane...

Plus i don't think you need jabs for a short stop-over in singapore.

We bought new car seats for the girls once we got here and they cost something like $170 each which sounds expensive but believe me they are fab car seats and certainly weren't the most expensive out there.

If you can bring them over then go for it if oyu are struggling on the room you have then leave them behind.

This is a thread I started a while back, there might be some useful info in there.

As for jabs, like everyone said no you don't need them for Singapore. We also found the airport to be very very clean. Sometimes we couldn't get in the toilets for people cleaning them but that can only be a good thing.

Hi Tracey and everyone else
Thanks for the post - we were a bit confused about the whole issue and the old thread is great too. Think we may try and sell our Britax seat for Kenya (who is 15 months old) and get a new one once we are there, which bolts to chassis and meets their standards. Ruby's seat (who is 3) is a very cheap booster seat from Argos about £7, so will take to use in house on dining chair now. We have a very cheap car seat which grandparents use on the odd occassion, we will use that up to last minute for Kenya, then donate to charity shop once we leave. Speak to you later.
