Hi everyone
Very interested in Marryatville High School for my two boys-I am searching the area for rented accomodation and I am finding vrey very little available!! what i did find was one that was really expensive! I have contacted local estate agents with not much luck.We hopefully all going well arrive for christmas.
Can anyone give any advice?
Many thanks
Fiona
Fiona,
one of the reasons Maryattville high school is regarded as a sought-after public school is because it is located in a more upmarket area of Adelaide and the kids who go there will mostly be from "better" families, hence better behaved, harder working, etc. (total generalisation, I know, but unfortunately too often true). Sadly, this often goes hand-in-hand with having more money and therefore you will pay top dollar to live in the catchment area of this school. There will be fewer rentals available, because most people in these areas will own their homes and those that are available are very expensive. It's a sad fact that too often good money and good education seem to go hand-in-hand...
If your boys are musical, they can apply for the special interest music programme, which means that you can live outside of the catchment area. They will have to do an audition, which I think takes place in November. You can contact the school and arrange to send a Video or DVD of their performance and testimonials from their music teachers plus previous reports etc.
Don't give up on rentals, just keep looking. ;)
Good Luck, Annette
G'day Fiona,
Annette is quite right with regards to some of the eastern suburbs around Marryatville.
Just a thought in relation to less expensive house rentals, try looking a little further afield to the north eastern suburbs;
Tranmere
Firle
Payneham South
Magill
Rostrevor etc
They of course will not be within walking distance of the school but a drive of approximately 15 minutes in peak hour. Not forgetting that the public transport network here is very good and this maybe another option for your children to get to and from school.
Here is a map link that may help with regards to locating the abovementioned areas in relation to the school.

...and bear in mind that you will need to be aware of the zoning for the school. If you are within the zone you have a right to a place there. If you are outside, for a school like that it will no doubt be impossible to get a place.
