Title: Anyone taking their dog?
Description: A word of advice

Hi All
When dogs are given their yearly boosters in the Uk, most include a vaccine against 'Leptospirosis' (a disease from rats).
Anyone planning to take their dog during the next 12 months should mention this to their vet, as if they have had this in their vaccination, it can give them a high blood test result which looks as though the dog is carrying the disease, which in some cases can lead to the dog not being allowed to travel! :sign68: The dogs can still have their booster without the leptospirosis, if you request it from the vet at the time of their booster.
We were NOT told about this prior to our dogs yearly boosters, and it has caused us a bit of a headache I can tell you. Luckily for us, our dogs are just ok, but apparantly this can cause lots of problems if people are unaware.
I thought I would mention it on here for the benefit of anyone else who doesn't know.

Thanks for that but I wonder we have a dog under a year and if we get our visa soon (we hope) she would have this injection you mentioned, we will start the process soon, do you think it will make a difference. Her booster is due in October and we could be going to Aus then. Worried now.

Hi
We got quite a few quotations from all over and narrowed it down to 2 companies - Golden Arrow in Shropshire, and Skymaster Air Cargo in Manchester.
We have decided to go with Skymaster Air Cargo in Manchester purely because its only half an hours drive away.
Hope this helps, if you need any more info, feel free to PM me.

I have today just returned from Melbourne to pick my dog up (William)
we used Golden Arrow pet shippers. They were really good and treated him very well, they made the whole process very easy.
It took us 8 hrs to drive to Melbourne, a long way but we saw a lot of countryside and wildlife, (mainly dead) but we enjoyed the trip.
Pickup time is 8am to 10.30 at Spotswood, we were there 30 mins early :D
I have to say it was very emotional picking him up, we had counted every day down.
He was a little smelly, a little thinner, but he was fine and very happy to see us.
I felt so sorry for all the other dogs there, my heart went out for them. I have to say I really can't see the point in them being there for a month, especially from the UK being rabies free etc, plus all the blood tests they have to have prior to travel I think it's another example of Australia being over the top, plus another money making scheme.
At the end of the day he is home with us and that is what matters.
Jon
