Description: New Build Houses
The Alexanders - June 10, 2006 09:11 PM (GMT)
Hi, :D
1st posting on here, just sent TRA away, looking through new houses dreaming of our future and have seen really nice ones and land at Noarlunga Down.
Does any one live in this area or know about The Point development.
Also how far it is from the city.
Thanks
Ali

Noarlunga Downs does have a bit of a bad reputation but is improving. I don't know the development you are talking about but there is quite a lot of housing trust property in the older parts of that area, which tends to 'colour' the image of the suburb.
To the city would take about 40 - 50 minutes depending on time of day and if the Expressway is running the right way for you at the time you want to go. There is an on ramp to it off Beach Road which is handy.
The Colonnades Centro shopping mall is nearby and has lately been expanded and a bit more is still under construction so the facilities for shopping are very good. It's also really close to good beaches ... Port Noarlunga is the closest (and my fav beach), and ND is just 10 minutes from McLaren Vale and all the wineries there. Also good for getting around the Fleurieu Peninsula and all the lovely countryside and scenery that offers.

The point development is away from the social housing but right next to the express way. It is facing the hills and mclaren vale at the moment but i think is going to grow into a few phases so there will be nice sea views coming soon.
Being near the express way might not be a bad thing if your working in the city which is probably a comfortable half hour drive.

Would`nt say i`m an expert by any means for I asked the same question about Noarlunga Downs a while back but can tell you what I know.
The Point is the second land release and IMO is certainly better placed than the first release Paringa View which is situated to the south of Hackham West(Huntfield Heights)with the expressway to one side and south round to the other, whereas the Point is on the Commercial Road side of the Expressway so certainly more appealing.
As for the area we found an established home there and it was perfect, exactly what we were looking for though not wanting to dive straight in decided to have a good sniff about first and certainly glad we did.
As mentioned before there is some trust housing there but also a lot of new builds so the area is defo on the up.
The trust housing was`nt an issue and did`nt bother us, at least not until I found out the house directly opposite was the scene of a shooting the previous month(strangely the estate agent did`nt know) therefore ending our love affair with the house.
Isolated case maybe but better to know the facts I say and make up your own mind.
good luck.

Further to Wengerboys comment about the shooting ..... this is the area where my daughter and her boyfriend were 'carjacked' at knifepoint by a drunken, bruised and bloodied person a few months ago, and then forced them to drive him to the Colonnades shopping mall and then stole all their money.
I have just taken my daughter to her friends house down that way tonight. My kid is almost 20 and well able to look out for herself, but it is the one area I will NOT let her go to by bus and then walk to her mates place. I find it quite creepy driving around there.
There's probably only 1% of the people living there who cause these problems, and the rest more than likely live in nice houses and are great people. As is always the way it's the 1% that gives a place it's repuation and that's what sticks.
