I wondered if anyone has been in a similar situation.
I am divorced, with a 7 year old daughter from first marriage. We live in UK - got married, divorced & had daughter in USA. I got a court order stating that I could bring my daughter to UK & have sole legal and physical custody. My daughters father lives in USA has seen her twice in 5 years & phones rarely - he doesn't pay any child support although mandated to do so by US court.
I have remarried - hubby has bben father for daughter since she was 3 - although he has not legally adopted her.
I know that for us to have visa's granted to come to SA next year we will probably need my ex's permission - he is impossible to contact & even if he verbally agrees I doubt whether he would be bothered to put it in writing & have it notorised legally.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Sorry I can't help with this one - USA law is different to the UK and when multiple jurisdictions are involved it can get messy. Best to get legal advice before applying - you can have 30 mins free with most solicitors, Jo.

Can you get new hubby to legally adopt her? I was adopted by my Mum's second hubby but I was 15 at the time and able to give my consent, Might be more difficult for you??

New hubby would happily adopt my daughter, trouble is that would need ex's permission too. :(
Just not sure if he would even fight it though. :blink:
