Title: FRIDGES

jules - July 11, 2004 09:47 AM (GMT)
Hi

we got up this morning to find our fridge had decided it didn't want to go to Australia after all!

I have been looking at fridges available there on the net.

Can you tell me if it's possible to buy 'larder fridges'? All of the ones I have found so far seem to have a freezer compartment in some shape or form.

I prefer to just have a large fridge without any freezing facility, but not one of the huge american types!

Thanks, Jules B)

I haven't looked at what's available in the shops here Jules, but you could try scouting around here http://www.goodguys.com.au/v3/index.cfm

or here http://www.birite.com.au/asps/fridges/default.asp

I have no idea how good or bad the suppliers and their prices may be, but you should get an idea of the range availabe at least.

Just had a thought Jules, you could grab something cheap and 2nd hand to tide you over for now, and treat yourselves to a new one here, which means you'll at least have a fridgeto use before your container arrives

HI Jules
I know you said you didn`t want a fridge with a freezer, but here you will really need one, I have a Maytag which is American, its not over the top but has lots of room, you`ll find to to get the bargains in meat you will need a freezer, if you bulk buy which is usually at least a kilo you get the better prices. You will really see that Steak etc is really cheap compared with the UK. Think about a little while wait until you get here and have a look around, or as suggested buy a second hand or a scratch and dent which are new but as it says.

Get a side by side pair. There's plenty of larder fridges available to choose from, with matching freezers if you need one. The Good Guys will do good deals for cash - make them an offer.

I would love one of those big side by side ones with the drinks dispenser...not enough room in thehouse we are renting but when we have our own place it will be on the list!!

Hi Elaine

thanks for the Birite site, I had already looked at the Good Guys, that's where I noticed that they seemed to have freezer compartments!

I wanted to check that I could find a larder fridge before going out and trying to find something to last until we leave in September, or I would go and buy a new one now! ( I have a friend who is going to buy anything I am not going to ship, as she is just renovating a property to let out as flats).

It looks like I'll be able to get one from Birite, so I'll try the temp route!

Jules ;)

Hi Sheila

thanks for your advice, I have a quite new separate large upright freezer with lots of drawers; that I'll be bringing!
The fridge was quite a bit older! :(

Don`t worry about it you`ll get what you want when your here, we will all tell you the shops to try, you can haggle in Aus

Sheila

Don`t forget your freezer might not work so efficently here in Aus, as temps differ

Hi Sheila
I've been told that before, but must admit I can't see the logic of it - the temp INSIDE the house isn't a lot different after all. Or are you thinking of a freezer in a garage or something?
