Title: Oz Landing Card front/rear
jsk710 - July 7, 2006 08:05 PM (GMT)

Hi Guys
Just wondered if any of you travelling out to Oz would like a preview of the landing card you get issued to fill in on the aircraft,to hand in at customs. When we went on our reccie I managed to grab 2 cards in case We made a mistake :happy25: :happy25:
Maybe the mods might store it on the forum somewhere handy for future migrants to view.
Keith ;) :D :chuckle:

Interesting....this may be a dumb question, but what did those validating but not immediately migrating tick on their landing card?
Thanks
Adam

Also the last thing you would want is a 3 hour wait to get through immigration which happened to some friends of mine yesterday at Adelaide Airport! (coming back from Phuket, Thailand)

We were given them at Singapore the both times we flew here.
Didn't really see it as a problem, Gav filled in two and I the others. After an 18 hr wait at Singapore a few minutes filling these in wasn't really an issue.

These are extremely important documents and if you are bringing in food you MUST declare it on this card. I had a block of chocolate hanging out of my bag and I ticked no for food and they brought me up on it. If you are bringing in more than $10,000, tick to declare it or you may have it confiscated.
Having watched Border Security and a great fan of it, I wouldn't want any of you to be fined. :(

Just wondering which section I need to fill in when we come back from the Uk in Aug..
B. Visitor or temp entrant
C. Resident returning to Aus.
As SIR is only a temp visa :what?:

Great couple of snaps Keith - very useful.
I was on the go for 30 hours and like most people I was pretty numb when I came to fill in the card. I ticked for wood, but couldn't think what it was when they searched my bags - It was the pencil I was filling the form out with
Anyway, no harm in playing safe. Declare everything!
For sure you will have your bags searched if you add a few ticks, but it's only an extra 10 minutes after 30 hours of travel and it's better that than an extra few hours + hefty fine if you get caught. :(
Shaz, whether I was right or wrong (numb head syndrome) I remember ticking the box for A - Migrating Peranently to Australia because as far as I was concerned, that is exactly what I plan to do, even though I just have a 457 (4-year working visa). It was no problem when I went through customs.
I reckon you should be ticking Box C though. After all, you are genuinely resident in Adelaide and Box C doesn't mention the word "Permanent".

Sweets are classed as 'food'. I know this now after my bag was pulled on arrival.
Anything 'organic' will show up on their radar when your bags get scanned so expect to get redirected to a friendly official.......

Just bear in mind it tends to be a bit quicker to get through the red channel than the green in the customs hall, so much so I always tick yes to something on the card.
Last time I said I had been on a farm and all they wanted to know was whether I had shoes with me that I had worn at the time. I quickly said that I'd borrowed a pair of wellies whilst there and they ushered me through without further question.

Last Christmas we declared food with us as we have a baby and was carrying baby food, when we got to be searched the only thing they asked to see was this food and the guy said no worries mate, go on through and that was it, taking the food with us.

On Validating tick A,
On return tick C,
It is a good advice to declare everything.
It is a good advice to have something to declare as going through red channel is almost always faster, you rarely go through X-ray, and in most cases they do not check the thing anyway.
(This is as far as Sydney airport is concerned).
A simple thing to have is a box of tea or jar of coffe, new, sealed somewhere easy to reach at the top of your luggage.

More forms - we love them don't we! Luckily we got ours with "breakfast" on the way from singapore and they where fairly simple to fill in.
On our validation trip, we asked one of the officials and were advised to fill in B.
And we declared some (unopened) packets of crisps to fast-track our way through the red channel (a moot point as we were one of the last though passport control but there you go....).
What was annoying, was the group of 6 asians in front of us who had not filled in the forms at all, and only one of the spoke English. That caused a bit of a hold-up in the line
