Title: Cheap Flights

Steve Bannister - July 16, 2004 09:44 AM (GMT)
I've search as much as I can, on here and the FAQ pages. I've found info on what airlines a lot of people used but not much on WHO you booked with. If anyone still has links to website that would be very handy. I sat up most of last night searching and typing in dates for quote, but at lot of sites don't let you type in one-way info.

So, if anyone still has links from when they booked flights, that would be very helpful, thanks.

All being well, we're looking to fly out between the middle and end of August.

Hi Steve,
As far as I remember we had to phone Singapore Airlines direct for a one-way flight quote.

I recommend them as they were cheaper than BA/QUANTAS at the time. We have travelled via Quantas before and agree with others that SA were just as good even if it was just down to things such as picking when you wanted to view a movie rather than when it was scheduled to be shown. Or for their understanding of travelling with infants.

Hope this helps.

Steve

I aleays use this site:

www.airline-network.co.uk

They give online quotes.

Just returned from Australia with Malaysian (very good) £490+tax each.
That was to Sydney then Virgin Blue to Adelaide($125 each way).

August should not be too expensive.

good luck

G

BTW I have always found Malaysian the best airline.Better than Singapore with more legroom.

I've always found this site to be the cheapest - you can book online and get quotes too.

http://www.travelbag.co.uk

Also cross-check prices with http://www.austravel.co.uk and http://www.travelmood.co.uk

We used Travelbag http://www.travelbag.co.uk/
They are an Oz specialist that the travel company I used to work with used all the time as they were reliable. Well worth checking out.

Someone from on here suggested Lees Travel and I booked with them (leestravel.com I think but might have been .co.uk) I found they were cheaper than booking direct with airline, or any of the other Oz specialists.

Well, after a day of clickimg and phoning, here is my definitive countdown of the cheapest flights. All prices are for one way to Adelaide at the beginning of September.

1. Thomas Cook! (High Street) - Adult £329, Chlid £249 (Plus taxes of £34) Total - £1372 - Cathay
2. Travel Mood (08700 660004) - Adult £317, Child £238 (Plus taxes of £60) Total - £1429 - Cathay
3. Austravel (0870 1662020) - Adult £415, Child £343 (inclusive of taxes) Total - £1588 - Cathay
4. Flight Centre (0870 4990040) - Adult £430, Child £340 (inclusive of taxes) Total - £1630 - Singapore
5. Lees Travel (0207 262 2665) - Adult £373, Child £282 (Plus taxes of £60) Total - £1641 - Singapore
6. Travel Bag (0870 814 4441) - Adult £381, Child £286 (Plus taxes of £60) Total - £1669 - Maylasian

So, after trawling through internet site and reccomendations, good old Thomas Cook were the cheapest. Hope this is of use to someone. Cathay Pacific hold the top 3 slots for being cheapest, Singapore are at 4 and 5 while Malaysian come in at the most expensive at number 6 (All still pretty close with less than £300 between them, so you could still choose which airline you wanted.)

Steve.

Quick question - which airline would Thomas Cook put you on?

Malaysian have the better seat pitch at 34", however only allow 20Kg of baggage.

Singapore have a 32" seat pitch but have a baggage allowance of 40Kg for migrants.

Also you'll change planes at some point, probably either Kuala Lumpur (Malaysian) or Singapore (no prizes for guessing the airline). If you're stuck for a few hours you may want to check which facilities are available to the traveller in transit.

I discounted any other carrier as the cost for five of us was too prohibitive.

Both pretty similar really.

The new airport at Sepang (KL) is pretty impressive and less like a shopping mall than Singapore.

Both airports have Transit hotels which book rooms by the day.

I prefer Malaysian to Singapore any day.

Hi Fred, Thomas Cook would put us on Cathay Pacific.

I'll update my list.

With Cathay Pacific you're looking at a stop over in Hong Kong? Which is 6 hours or so? Plus the second leg is longer than the standard 6.5 if memory serves me right? 8 hours or so? With kids in tow give me 3 hours in KL any day!! :D

Incidentally, Malaysia (unofficially) allow 30kg per person before they charge excess baggage fees - we've gone with them twice before so I can vouch for this!!

Hi Steve
Have you considered going via the USA? Might not be the cheapest option of course! We did it so we could stop for a few days at Disney on the way.
