Hi Sally
I know Weasy has just been over on a reccie and use KLM although I don't think they were too impressed with them.

I heard the same from Weasy. Apparently no individual screens in the back of the seats - just one big one up the front.
We just travelled Cathay Pacific and they were fantastic.

Flew with them in Xmas 04 (18 months ago) to Nairobi,Kenya. I used them several years ago to Buenos Aires also. In between I have used them to several European destiinations.
Mainly they have been fine (most short haul are), Buenos Aires was excellent and Nairobi, despite a few hiccups (pm me if you want more details) was pretty good.
It was noticeable, probably like most airlines, they have been cutting back over the years and the flight to Nairobi was nowhere as good as Buenos Aires - though it was still good.
On screens, I had an individual screen in front of me.

We just flew KLM for the leg to and from Kuala Lumpur. Appalling lack of leg room, no individual screens, we ordered western vegetarian and got chick pea curry and cous cous (kids loved that  ). We definitely were not impressed, their 747s are very outdated and overcrowded. The leg from KL to Adelaide was with Malaysian and that was great.
We won't be flying with KLM when we go back for good....

That's made up my mind then! I was tossing up between Singapore for £587 and KLM for £512. I'll stick with Singapore - I know where I'm going at Changi now too

flew with them to Harare(some years back), except the flight was late leaving Heathrow to Amsterdam. I said to hubby just watch our luggage will still be sat on the runway and we'll be in Harare! Yes luggage still in London,we got put on an South African airways flight..saw our luggage 2wks later on our 3wk trip!
Friends, flew to the US with KLM, they arrived luggage still in Amsterdam! Now this may not be typical....but didn't like them and will never fly them again, leg room not up to much and in-flight entertainment sucked. Let's hope they have improved somewhat!
Sorry..

I got an emergency flight with KLM for my wife last year to see her Mum in the UK.
Main reason was that they did a connecting flight to Leeds.
They were absolutely crap!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll never fly with them long haul again.
Their attitude towards my reasonable requests were rubbish to say the least.
Not the cheapest but now we always fly Singapore.

I've flown UK to Aus with KLM and not been impressed with either the quality of the plane of the LOOOONG wait in KL for the connection plus another transfer via Amsterdam.
Door to door about 36 hours compared with Qantas at about 21.
Maybe other routes are better.

Hi
Have just flown back to England with Emirates and found them very good. Had lots of leg room and over 500 channels on individual screens. Stop and start them whenever you want. Choice of two meals. Would highly reccommend them but a bit pricey. $3144 return for 1 person.

would definately agree with this post. I will never fly KLM again. Also found some of the staff rather rude and abrupt. They were also very very picky at check-in, just a little over and everything had to be repacked and some things left behind. Fair goes though, overweight is overweight. However, any other carrier has always allowed that tiny bit extra. Nothing more cringeworthy than opening your cases and showing the contents therein to all and sundry as you try to repack etc.

My 14 year old flew with KLM to UK and couldn't beleive there were no individual screens to watch. Bit of a bummer as she had no-one to talk to either!!!!
She is flying back to here with them (setting off to Manchester airport as I type) and is due back on Tuesday morning. Seeing as she can't even take a book or her ipod on the flight with her now she is going to be a bit bored to say the least!!!!

We flew back with Emirates to the UK back in April. Loads of leg room, food was excellent and arrived at regular intervals, and the in-light entertainment was fab.
If you're using Emirates, try and make sure that they've goth their "ICE" in-flight system. This is basically 60+ films that you can start / pause / start at any time. The only problem is that they don't fly out of Adelaide.
Just a query, are return flights from Oz to the UK more expensive that the UK to Oz return equivalent, as on a previous post a return for one person was $3,100 as we paid $9,000 for 2 adults & 3 kids.

In our experience, yes. Both times Chloe has flown back to UK it has cost more than $3000, including taxes and additional fees for unaccompanied minor.

We used KLM for our reccie to Adelaide in Oct. They were terrible. Thought I'd save myself a few hundred quid, but considering the extra time with transfers (changing twice, via amsterdam), no tv's, no game handsets either for the kids. food average, no signs of stewardess for drinks etc - felt you were interrupting them by asking for a drink - not good.
we've flown Malaysian twice before (to perth) and they were fantastic. lots of leg room (for my tall husband) individuals screens and games for kids, food delicious and service amazing.
As it takes so long to get there, its important the journey is a good one!
We actually arrived on the first flight into adelaide at the new airport! lots of fuss about this on the plane and only upside was they rushed us through baggage and customs. Was interviewed for tv, but we were obviously not enthusiastic enough having our long. long flight.
Wish I was going again now..........
