It is virtually impossible to get PR over the age of 45.
She could go as a Contributory parent if she meets the crieria and her son sponsors her in 2 years.
She should find it fairly easy to get sponsored for a temporary visa. These can last up to 4 years and most health authorities would sponsor her. Nursing agencies used to sponsor but less so nowadays.
She should contact a few hospitals in the area she wants to go and take it from there.
She must expect that they would probably only want her on a basic grade but that is up to her to negotiate.
She should also understand that the terms of the visa would tie her to the employer so there are downsides.
Good luck

hiya Grayling
i told her about it being hard to get a visa at the age she is which she understands its the fact that her only son is moving over there and she want to be near him as they are very close i will have a look at the contributory parent booklet for her and then she can decide for her self which is or will be the best way as for working at a different level in nursing that wouldnt bother her as long as she gets a job and she can see her son she will be happy
thanks for your reply

She could easily get a sponsored Temp. visa (457 I think) and live in Australia while her son is doing the two years. She would probably get this visa long before her son gets his!
Pay scales for Nurses are determined by years of experience rather than grade alone so her salary would not be too bad even on a basic grade. Around $48000 plus shift allowances if she is on the top level of basic (RN) grade in South Australia. Higher in NSW. She would need 9 years experience to get to that position.

Debs,
Is your friend planning to work in Australia? If so, and as she is a nurse, she should explore the possibility of obtaining an employer nominated permanent residency visa under the ENS or the RSMS. Even though these visas have an age threshold of 45 years, I believe that they also have an "exceptional appointment" provision which may well be available given her occupation (sorry - I'm technically on holiday at the moment so don't have my technical info to hand to confirm this!).
I recall one of the hospitals in Adelaide was offering visas under the RSMS pathway a year or so ago - sorry, I can't recall the name of the hospital concerned.
Information about the ENS and RSMS is here:
http://www.immi.gov.au/migration/employers/index.htmMight be worth looking into ...
Best regards.

Alan
A couple of years ago I was offered a senior nursing post but was unable to find anyone willing to sponsor me under this provision. I turned the job down because cof this.
It was in NSW so maybe it varies state to state.
It is obviously worth a try though.
