I have had English dvd's sent over as pressies and had no probs with them.

Can't help you with the games though.

UK is region 2 and Australian is region 4 so I would guess not, unless you get a multi region DVD player or one that you can get an unlock code for.

I'm taking my PC which has UK DVD player and will hook it up theough the TV :cool shake:

Hi Trudi
The DVDS are a different region to ours, bit of a gray area some do some don't, but if you take your player with you no probs, Some DVD players are multi region, so if you buy dvds in Oz there is a chance that if your player is multi region it may play them ok.
Not sure on the X box but have you tried looking in the FAQ section on the forum there may be some answers there

On a similar note is there anything like play.com for cheap DVD's?

Or am I better getting them from Play, delivered to a UK address and sent out from there?

And in relation to the Xbox question. Does it not say anything about country etc on the box for any of the games?

From this I am guessing yes following a google search

Hi

I've used this company and they seemed very good. CD much cheaper than the shops and arrived on time.

i use cd-wow. Free world wide delivery and takes about 3 days to get here from Hong Kong. You can buy either Region 2, 4 or multi region.

Prices can be in pounds or dollars, you can specify which region you are in. Excellent for sending gifts to the Uk for pressies.

Most DVD's you can buy in the UK actually say on the back region 2 and 4 which means they will work fine in OZ.
IF they only say region 2 then they wont work on a Aussie dvd player unless its multi region as already stated.
no problem with any games x box ps1 ps2 will all work fine English or Aussie

Aussie dvd's will not play on your uk PS2 unless its chipped.
or you get a copy of regionX from ebay before you leave the uk, very hard to get hold of over here,, I think Amazon also sell it about 10 quid.
This changes the software in your playstation to multi region allowing you to play region 4 dvd's on your UK Playstation.
I haven't tried it so cant recommend it.
Sooo. games no problem but dvd's just check the region.

Bonjour ;)

Hi, ours play some of them but not all. Was recently told though that if you call the manufacturer of dvd plyer they can give you a code to enter and then will play all regions ! not sure if true as yet to try this :cool shake:

The one we bought wasn't multi region - but a quick google search got us a code in 10 seconds. Another 10 seconds to put it in and hey presto it was multi region! <_< <_<

We bought a region 4 DVD whilst we were over in Oz a few months back, needless to say that it didn't work in the kids portable DVD players we'd brought with us  . However, a google search threw up plenty of sites that gave multi-region unlock codes four our Samsung DVD players at home, and having the region 4 DVD allowed us to check they were actually unlocked! The first one worked first time, the second (older one) needed a few goes before it decided to play ball.

This site will give you the hack codes to change your DVD players to multi region.

I have changed portable playersand regular players, that way you can buy your DVD's online from any site as it won't matter what region they are. Like others i always use CD WOW or Amazon.com.

Hope this helps somebody.

Make the most of it...

It'll all start getting grubby again soon. Anyone who remembers the VHS/Betamax wars will be getting deja-vu over the latest set of format competitions for our hearts and minds as the next generation of video players gets ready to hit the market. Once again there are 4 totally incompatible formats (although only two that we'll actually have to choose between). So as HD-DVD lines up against Blu-Ray, where does region protection come in?

Well, we don't know yet. Region protection has, of course , been a commercial and PR disaster for the studios - it just hasn't worked. But that hasn't stopped them from wanting to flog the dead horse. Blu-Ray (backed by Sony, Sharp, Thomson, Samsung, Hitachi and others) was always meant to be region-free and early kit has kept to that but they've bowed under pressure and now region protection has been included in the standard. HD-DVD (backed by Canon, Kenwood, Mitsubishi, NEC, Sanyo, Toshiba etc) was also meant to be region free but the standard was changed in May this year to include it.

Looks like there will only be three regions this time - we get lumped in with the US.

And yes, some manufacturers are already hinting that they'll code the protection so that it can be changed by the user.
